SHOWERS Hundreds of friends assembled at the St. Charles Catholic church Wednesday when last rites were held for W. Edward Showers, age 56, Bloomington civic and industrial leader who died Sunday at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Mr. Showers, president of the Showers Bros. Furniture Company and known throughout the country as a leader in the furniture industry, was taken to Indianapolis last week for observation and treatment. He had suffered a severe heart attack last November but apparently had recovered. He had been in ill health for more than 20 years. Mr. Showers attended the local public schools, Indiana University and Rush Medical College of Chicago University. He joined the Showers company organization in 1914 and had been its president and leader for years. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, Rotary, Bloomington County Club, Indianapolis Athletic Club and various organizations. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Bertha Matthews Showers; one daughter, Mrs. Robert K. Dillon and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Smith and Mrs. Sanford Teter.
