Smithville (Monroe County, Indiana) News, March 26, 1909, p. 2. A shooting at South Union several days ago is supposed to have occurred over the dead dog found in the church. James Chambers and his son, Sherrill got into a racket supposed about the dead dog when the son came at him with a knife. The father succeeded in wrenching the knife away from him when the boy ran around the house and got a revolver. Mrs. Chambers jerked her husband in the house and barred the door just as the boy fired a shot through the door very close to Mr. Chambers head. Fount Jones, a neighbor, was called down but the boy had fled and has not yet been heard from. He is about 18 years old and had been home only a short time, having run off once before.
