WELL KNOWN LOCAL WOMAN DIES SUNDAY After an illness of several weeks, Mrs. Lucy May McDermott, age 47 years, died Sunday night at the St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis of carcinoma of the liver. She had undergone an operation several months ago and had returned to the home of her father, John Murphy, West 5th Street, with whom she lived, apparently benefitted in health but became worse and was taken to the hospital several weeks ago. Mrs. McDermott was born in this county May 22, 1883, the daughter of John and Susan Friel Murphy. She was educated in the local schools and at an early age she became a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church and has lived a devout follower of her church. She was married to Attorney Charles McDermott and moved to Indianapolis where her husband was engaged in the practice of law. Later Mr. McDermott moved his practice to Chicago, and he and Mrs. McDermott lived there a number of years. On September 1, 1926, Mr. McDermott was drowned while on a trip abroad. The drowning occurred in Germany, and the body was recovered and was returned here for burial in Rose Hill. The interment was September 30, 1926. After her husband's death, Mrs. McDermott returned here and has been living with her father, John Murphy, well known brick contractor. Besides the father, she leaves four brothers, Joseph, William, Charles and Frank Murphy, all of this city. Funeral rites will be held at 9 AM Tuesday from the St. Charles Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul A. Deery in charge. Interment will be in Rose Hill at the side of the body of her husband. Pallbearers will be Harry Watts, Phil Carr, Harry Jackson, Walter Burke, John Kerr and Malcolm Short. The body was brought from the hospital to the Day Funeral Home and was removed this afternoon to the father's home.
