    3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Courier, March 31, 1899, p. 5. Young Attorney's First Plea. Kirkwood Miers made his first appearance in the circuit court yesterday as an attorney in the case of the state of Indiana vs. Henry Barns, charged with assault and battery with intent to kill. He made a motion to discharge the defendant for the reason that there was no sufficient charge on file. The young attorney presented the motion to the court in a speech that showed he had given the case careful consideration. The older members of the bar congratulated him on his presentation of the case. The court sustained the motion and discharged the defendant. Constance T.
