    3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, October 31, 1893, p. 4. SMITHVILLE. The enrollment of two rooms of our schools is now 70 pupils; primary 36 and upper room 34...The 7th and 8th year pupils are reading "The Lady of the Lake." They have an edition with notes and show interest. They read once daily and have nearly finished Canto Fifth. Special attention is paid to reading in all the grades...A vote of the pupils was taken to ascertain their opinion as to what three of their number had been most studious this term. Written ballots gave the following result: First honor: Miss Iva Johnson; second honor; Miss May Thrasher; and third honor: Misses Claude Ross, Mertle Fowler, Emma Gaither, and Ollie Johnson...The Friday previous both schools met in the larger room and had pleasant exercises of songs and recitations.
