Lowe: Sir: I have arrived at that time of life when I am prohibited by the constitution from holding a commission in the militia of Indiana. I believe you are the oldest brigadier in the division, if so, then you must exercise the duties of major general. I am happy to inform you, however, that my faculties, mental and physical, are not impaired by declining years and, if necessary, I will be found among the ranks of volunteers.
