DIPTHERIA CLOSES SCHOOL Because of the presence of a case of diphtheria at Stinesville, the schools of the town have been closed indefinitely by Supt. W. V. Payne. Stanley Hazel, 10 years old, has the disease and Mrs. Glenn Easton is recovering from it. By closing the schools it is hoped to prevent the epidemic.

MARY SPAULDING Mrs. Mary Spaulding, 68 years old and wife of Albert Spaulding, died last night at her home on west Third street. She is survived by her husband and a number of children. The funeral will be held at the house at ten o'clock tomorrow in charge of the Rev. Joseph Campbell and interment will take place at Rose Hill cemetery. Pallbearers: John Scully, Walter Stout, William Jenkins, Sherman Adkins, Nick Walter, Isaac Bledsaw.

STANFORD THRASHER DEAD Mrs. Stanford Thrasher, age 61 years, died at the home of her son, Ira Hull, near Whitehall yesterday afternoon, at one o'clock of the complications of stomach trouble. Mrs. Thrasher has only been sick about a week. She is survived by Ira Hull, a son by her first marriage, and William, Ernest & Eugene Thrasher, and Mrs. Jessie Tarkington, of this county and Mrs. John Sparks of near Chicago. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 10:30 at the Richland church in charge of the Rev. Neal and interment will take place at the same cemetery.

Jones, 80 years old, a former resident of London, Ky., died last night at the home of his son-in-law, Alex Sergeant, south Madison street. He is survived by seven children. The body will be taken tomorrow morning to London, Ky., for interment.
Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Evening World, October 7, 1916, p. 1. DEATH OF R. R. REEVES Rufus R. Reeves, a well known resident of this county, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. W. B. Burke, east of the city this morning after a lingering illness with dialation [sic] of the heart. Mr. Reeves formerly owned a farm in Salt Creek township and also had interests in Garrett, Ill., his former home. He had been ill for four or five months. Funeral arrangements have not been completed but the body will be sent to Garrett for funeral services and interment. Mr. Reeves had traveled a great deal during his life and had many friends.

DEATH OF SAMUEL WHITMER Friends in this city will be grieved to learn of the death of Samuel Whitmer, of Wollcottville, one of the best known farmers of Allen County. Mr. Whitmer is the brother of Mrs. Jennie Phillips, who with her two daughters were former residents of this city. Mr. Whitmer, has visited this city on several occasions. The cause of his death was not stated but it is presumed that it was due to typhoid as he had been suffering from that malady, some time previous to his demise.
Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Evening World, October 9, 1916, p. 1. BODY TAKEN TO ILLINOIS The body of Rufus Reeves, who died Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Burke, east of the city, was taken at midnight last night to Garrett, Ill., for interment, accompanied by Mrs. Burke, the sister of the deceased. Mr. Reeves was a single man and owned a fine farm in Illinois. His sister is his only surviving relative.
