Mrs. George McA'fee, the colored woman in jail on the charge of murdering William Meadows, has been bailed out and was allowed to go to her home Thursday evening. Under a proceeding held before Judge Miers during the day, the bond was fixed at $2,500, and later it was signed by Judge Cunning, Dr. Joseph Rogers and a number of Colored friends of the woman. She was glad to go to her house, and thanked Sheriff Adams and everybody about the jail before she departed. Constance T.     3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, October 3, 1893, p. 4. There came near being a serious accident Friday evening out at the fair grounds by the cab driven by Capt. Fields being turned over. A number of hacks and carriages were bunched together, when the vehicle was thrown over on its side. At the time two ladies were inside, where they remained until men placed the vehicle on the wheels again, when they climbed out and started for the city without giving their names or waiting to inquire into details.     3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, October 3, 1893, p. 4. The slick-fingered gentry only got in their work once during the fair, when Mrs. J. H. Dowden was relieved of a valuable gold watch. While she was in a crowd, the watch which was loosely held in the belt of her dress, was taken by some unknown person. As yet, there is no clew to the thief. This was the only act of the kind reported on the grounds, and Officers Owens and Reeves deserve special credit for the police protection. Constance T.     3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, October 3, 1893, p. 4. Homer Sullivan, the son of Mrs. Amanda Sullivan, living south of the spoke factory, died Sunday after a long illness. He was 17 years old and was a faithful member of the Kirkwood Avenue Christian church. He was a young man who had many fiends and was held in the highest regard by all his acquaintances. His father was the first man buried by the Order of the Red Men after its organization in this city. Constance T.     3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, October 3, 1893, p. 4. Note: Mrs. Samuel Houston appears to be Leila (Lilly) C. Rogers Houston, the second of Samuel Houston's four wives, married 07 June 1891 in Monroe County. She was born about 1863, the daughter of James M. and Rebecca Pullen Rogers. Mrs. Samuel Houston died at her home near Hindostan Friday at 4 o'clock. Mrs. Houston was about 30 years old and a member of the Methodist church at Bethel. The remains were interred at Hindostan. She was a daughter of the late 'Squire James Rogers, and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. The remains were buried in the same grave with her babe. Constance T. Mrs. Mitchell was 72 years old and was a member of the Christian church, and left many friends to mourn her death. She was the mother of John Crafton. The remains were intered [sic] at Clear Creek.
