Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Evening World, March 10, 1924, p. 1. NOTE: The item below was abbreviated from the original as noted by the ellipsis. The article is accompanied by a photograph of Earl. On September 20, 1926, Earl W. Payne was granted a divorce from his wife, Carrie G. Payne who is believed to be one and the same as Carolyn G. Payne. Earl W. Payne today announces his candidacy for the Democratic nomination of Joint Senator of Brown, Monroe and Greene counties at the May primary. Mr. Payne has been a resident of Bloomington for almost five years and for the past ten years has been the district circulation manager of the Indianapolis News and consulting circulation manager of The Evening World. As a businessman, he is well known for his splendid ability as an organizer and has built up for both the Indianapolis News and the Evening World a circulation and a carrier organization that has been very credible as a monument to his success. He has never been a candidate for office before. Mr. Payne was born and raised near Jasonville in Greene County where his father was for years engaged in the undertaker's business and where he attended the public schools. He is well and favorably known all over Green County, partly because of his former residence there, and because for years he has traveled over it in his duties of the representative of the circulation department of the Indianapolis News. He is likewise well known over Brown County for the same reason that he has traveled over it for years in the attendance to his business affairs.
I apologize for there not being any posts to the INMonroe list for the last week or so. You may be aware that Ancestry.com, who also operates the rootsweb.com mailing lists, was hit by a DDoS attack last week. This kind of attack floods the company's servers with so many messages, demands for service, to the point that the servers crash. While ancestry.com was able to get back online late last week, it was only yesterday that the rootsweb site was back up and running. Findagrave, which is also operated by Ancestry.com, was also unavailable for several days, but is once again back on line. Randi and I will continue our usual practice of making daily posts to INMonroe now that servers are again available to accept and distribute the messages to subscribers. Connie Constance T. Fellow genealogists- About ten days ago hackers created major problems for Ancestry and those sites owned by Ancestry including Rootsweb. The sites became inactive while repairs were being made. Ancestry and Findagrave have been back up during the past few days but not Rootsweb. This morning, I was finally able to pull up Rootsweb, now I need to find out if mail sent to the Rootsweb lists is being made available. This is a trial run. We'll see what happens. Randi Richardson
