    1. [INMONROE] William Stephenson, Son-in-Law of John Stipp, Died
    2. Constance Shotts
    3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, October 31, 1893, p. 4. Note: The first line of the item identifies the deceased as William Stephenson but he is later referred to as Mr. Johnson. There is a listing in the book County Cemeteries of Monroe, published by the Monroe County Historical Society, 1998, for William Stephenson, buried at Clear Creek Cemetery, with the death date of 29 October 1893 and a birth date of 12 May 1962, p. 110. There is no similar listing for anyone surnamed Johnson in the same cemetery, buried in October 1893. William Stephenson, living about 4 miles southeast of the city, died Sunday morning of typhoid fever. He had been sick about two weeks, and from the first the disease gave evidence of a fatal termination. Mr. Johnson was about 23 years old and was a son-in-law of John Stipp, a well known farmer south of town. He was a model young man in all respects, and held in the highest regard. The funeral will take place at Clear Creek church Tuesday morning, and will be in charge of Rev. L. T. VanCleave. Constance T. 2. Constance Shotts
    3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, October 31, 1893, p. 4. Note: Consider Harrell an alternate spelling for Harrel. 1. [INMONROE] Bloomington Schools Crowded
    2. Constance Shotts
    3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, October 31, 1893, p. 4. At the Schools. The best proof that Bloomington is growing, at least in one way, is the fact that even with the new building, all the rooms are crowded. Bloomington as an educational center has few equals. The attendance of No. 1 is 101; B class is 58. Parents should make an effort to have their children enroll the first week of school, otherwise they will probably have to drop into the C class in February.

    1. [INMONROE] William Yerian of Bloomfield Moved to Brown County to Dig for Gold
    2. Constance Shotts
    3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, October 31, 1893, p. 1. William Yerian, of Bloomfield, passed through the city Sunday, on his way to Brown county, with two wagon loads of gold digging and washing machinery and also his house hold goods. He will prospect for gold, Mr. Yerian states that from reports, he is confident that gold can be found in paying quantities, but that it will take hard work to get it. Mr. Yerian is an old gold digger, having dug gold in California, before the war. When the war broke out Mr. Yerian enlisted in Dr. Axtell's company, and served faithfully until its close. Since the war he has resided with his family in Green county. Mr. Yerian states that his family that is at Bloomfield will join him in a few days. In connection with this it might be said that a thousand acres of land has been leased in Brown county by a stock company, of which Mr. Johnston and Mr. Yerian of Bloomfield are members. One thing peculiar about the matter is that there has been no quartz found, as yet, but what has been found are particles of pure gold. Constance T. 1. [INMONROE] Dr. & Mrs. Rice & Mr. &Mrs. Harry Tell Gave Birthday Party for Mrs. Carrie Kirby, Wife of Dick Kirby
    2. Constance Shotts
    3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, October 31, 1893, p. 1. A grand birthday dinner was given by the many friends of Mrs. Carrie Kirby, wife of Dick Kirby, at Clear Creek, on Friday. If the writer should stop with the above, the occasion would not have justice done it, for to appreciate the event one would have to sit at the table that was spread by the good ladies of Clear Creek. The word "grand" doesn't express it; the word "good" only helps to convey a faint idea. There were about 40 persons present, and all enjoyed the day. When the hour of separation came, a happy good will and wish went up, that many more as pleasant days as this may come to Carrie. The success of this day was due in large measure to Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Rice and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tell. Constance T.
