A surprise wedding occurred Wednesday night when H. E. Giles, of Muncie and Miss Nora Pedigo of this city were united in marriage. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W. F. Reed at his residence on east Fourth street. The bride is a well known young lady, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Pedigo, east Tenth street. She has an excellent position at the Banner store, and has many friends and acquaintances. The groom is a young man of excellent habits and is a mechanic. The young couple will go to housekeeping in Muncie in June with the best wishes of all their friends.

Mrs. Matilda Meadows, five miles east of the city, died suddenly yesterday morning after partaking of a light breakfast. She was in her usual good health, excepting that she suffered from a goiter on the neck. Deceased was 71 years old and resided with her son, Charles Meadows. She was the widow of Riley Mercer and the mother of five children. The funeral will occur at the Bethel church at ten o'clock this morning in charge of Rev. Garrison.

Bloomington (Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana) Telephone, November 17, 1896, p. 4. While playing in Samuel Bray's carpenter shop yesterday, Iris, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. S. Keller, had three fingers of her hand badly mangled. She and some other children were turning a machine and the little girl's fingers were caught in the cog wheels.

Hays were at Indianapolis last week with some fine cattle, taking in the town and theaters. Mr. Hays made a trip through the state house, and in looking through the relics of the late war found the old flag under which he had fought as a member of the 67th Indiana-the the [sic] first time he had seen it since the war.

Oscar Laselle died at his home in Washington township Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. He had been an invalid since childhood, caused by paralysis. He was 17 years of age and was highly respected throughout the community. The remains were interred Monday morning at 10 o'clock in the Hacker graveyard.

Miss Bertha Dowell died Saturday morning at 2:30 a.m. at her home on west Smith avenue of consumption, after an illness of several months. She was 21 years of age and was an estimable young lady. The remains will be interred at Rose Hill Sunday at 10 o'clock.
