He apparently came to Brown Towship, Martin Co, In as a young man and married at age 19 to Mary Magdalen Strange. They had two children: Joseph born in 1841 and William Ignatius born in May 1845.( this is my great grandfather). James then married Priscilla Miles and had eight more children. He was in the Army during the Civil War. He enrolled on the 14th day of August 1862 at Loogootee in Co "B" 80th Regiment of Indiana Volunteers to service as a Private on the thrid day of September 1862 in Princeton in Co B 80th Regiment of Indiana. Vlunteers to serve Three years on during the war. On the Mustor Roll of Co. "B" of the Regiment , for the months of Sept. Oct. The earliest record of the Beard's I have is the marriage of Nathaniel and Zelpha in 1817. Yes, John Cannon was born in 1785. He was listed on the 1850 census. He died in January 1858. I have only one child listed for John and Mary, Lucinda Cannon born 1826 in Kentucky. I don't know of any land they owned in Knox County. Nathaniel and Zelpha were married in Daviess County, I have no other record of residence. Jack Anderson

She was probably born in Lee County, Virginia. I don't have anything on Nathaniel, but do have information on the rest of the Cannon family. Most of them descended from James Cannon b. 1755 in the 96th District of South Carolina. James fought in the Revolutionary War. After the war he went to Montgomery County, North Carolina to visit family. While there he married Jemima Nichols. In about 1790 they moved to Lee County, Virginia where they resided about 20 years. They then moved to the Indiana Territory into the district now forming Daviess County. The Cannon's lived in and along Daviess and Martin County Indiana. I am researching my STICKLAND family and have traced Raymond S. STICKLAND to Martin Co. IN in 1889 when he married Jessie SMITH on September 2 of that year. Raymond was born 1855 Iwerne Minster Dorset. Jessie was born August 1849 place unknown. Prior to being in Indiana Raymond S. STICKLAND was in Ontario Canada at least from 1861 to 1871 as he appears on both census records with his parents Josiah STICKLAND and Charlotte PITMAN (aka Shalotte PITMOND). In the 1900 Benton Co. IN census Maggie appears as a widow with four children: John b. Feb. 1877, Frank b. Aug. 1879. Mary b. Feb. 1883 and Joseph b. Nov. 1885. All births were prior to the marriage of Maggie and Raymond and although listed as STICKLANDs on the census, I do not know if the were Ramond's or Maggie's from a previous marriage. Raymond obviously died between Setp. 2, 1889 and the time of the 1900 census. Any help is sorting this out would be greatly appreciated. Gloria Pare Nee Stickland Ontario, Canada
I have just joined this list after discovering that my ggguncle moved to Martin County and got married. His name is Raymond S. STICKLAND born 1855 Iwerne Minster, England to Josiah Stickland and Sharlott Pitmond (Charlotte Pitman). He emigrated to Ontario Canada between 1855 and 1861 and then to Martin Co. between 1882 and 1889. On September 2, 1889 he married Maggie SMITH. That is about all I have so far but again this is a new find. I have lots of information on Raymond's ancestors and would like to find out about his descendants. Also most willing to share info.
