    3. Hi , I think my husband descends through this Tewell / Patterson line as well. His grandmother was Mary Doris JONES who was born in Martin Co. in 1891. Her mother was Alice Elizabeth PATTERSON, a daughter of George W. PATTERSON, who was a son of Joseph PATTERSON and Roseanna TEWELL. Do I have this right? This information was given to me by a cousin and I'm in the process of following up on it and trying to understand it! 2. Hi Judy, I am related (I'm not kidding!) to just about every old Catholic family in Daviess and Martin Co, IN. I have Bowling, Spalding, Mattingly, Montgomery, Tewell, Patterson, Seals, Lents, Gootee, Cissell, Carrico, etc. etc. I have little bits on just about each surname, but sometimes not enough info to attach to their families (argh!)... Anyway, the Wards are an old Catholic family in Martin Co. I suspect they, too came from Maryland by way of Washington Co, KY with the other Catholics who began emigrating in 1785. I have had contradictory information on the Tewells. One source says the Tewells came from MD with the Pattersons--another source says these Tewells (who were Irish) came from PA?? all of the Tewells are Irish--it is just--did they come from Md or someplace else.... Rosanna B. Tewell b. 1798 KY, married in 1818 Joseph (Joshua?) Patterson b. 1793 Wash Co, KY, at St Rose, Springfield, Washington Co, KY. They relocated to Daviess/Martin Co, IN abt 1819. All 12 of their children were born in Martin Co, IN. Charles Tewell and his wife, Sarah Ann Matilda Riney accompanied his sister and bro in law to Indiana. The parents of Charles and Rosanna Tewell were William Tewell and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Raney...the parents are believed to have died in Washington Co, KY. There is also a brother, John Tewell who married Nancy Evans in 1811 in Wash Co, KY. I have no information on John and Nancy Evans Tewell. Charles and Sarah Ann Tewell had Elizabeth, Mattie, Jeremiah, Hester, Alexander, Benedict J., Greenburg, Maurice and Mary Grace. I also note that there was a Margaret 'Peggy' Tewell b. 1800 KY who married George William Padgett and they had a son, William Pius Padgett. This family was also in the area. I wish I could help more.... Shirley

    3. I am seeking any information about the family of Lewis (b. c1798) and Margaret (Montgomery) Ward (b.1810). In 1842, Lewis and Margaret Ward moved to Daviess CO. The 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses showed this family in Alfordsville. However, many of the children's marriages occurred in Martin CO. Children were: Martha Ann Ward Arvin (William) Catherine Ward Cannon (Isaac) John Lewis Ward (Susan Amanda Miles) married in Loogootee at St. John's Catholic Church Rebecca Jane Ward Burch (Michael A.) Nancy Ann Ward Summers (Thomas) James Pius Ward (Martha Jane Miles) Joseph Ezekiel Ward Lucy Ann Ward Queen (Richard Marsham) Hillary Ward (Sarah Jane Burch) Louvinia/Lavina Ward Miles (Elza B.) Clements (Bazel) Mary Dorena Martina Ward Strange (John S.) buried at St. John's Catholic Church cemetery in Loogootee. Margaret Ward Tewell (William) Lewis must have died between 1870-80. Margaret was alive for the 1880 census where she was found living with her unmarried daughter Mary in Martin CO. I am most interested in finding the death and burial information for this couple. However, I would be pleased to discover anything more about the children as well. My connection is John Lewis Ward. Thank you, Judy Dixon Judith H. Dixon Joplin, MO http://www.ipa.net/~dixonj/
