Posted on: Martin Co. In Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/In/Martin/10105 Surname: William John Sherfick, William D Sherfick ------------------------- I am in hopes that someone can help me. I am looking for the correct parents of William John Sherfick, he was born 03 Mar 1914 in Shoals, Martin, Indiana. He is a twin, to Charles Sherfick that passed in infancy. William John married Ruth Esther (adoptive name: Gard). According to birth index's his parents are William D. Sherfick and Eliza/Elizabeth Jane Albright. I have his father as William Sherfick who married in 1910 to unknown . And his grandfather as William D. Sherfick that is married to Eliza/Elizabeth Albright. Eliza would work as his mother for she is 30 years to William D.'s younger. Could there be 2 William D.'s? I have found a William Daniel Sherfick that was born about 1880. Which would better fit. But no other information. If anyone can shine a light in this direction. I would be so releived. Any information, on any people listed above, any information that might lead me to the correct lineage. Thank You so much for taking the time to read this. And a BIGGER thanks! to those, that can help. Sheila Burns Sherfick Deuce0199@aol.com

Posted on: Martin Co. In Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/In/Martin/10102 Surname: Hedden, Willcox ------------------------- Am looking for information about the Thomas Willcox family who moved from Newark N.J. to Hindostan, Martin Co. late 1819,early 1820. They may have lived briefly in Clarks Ferry, Mitcheltree Twp. of Martin Co. In the 1820 census of Hindostan it lists Thomas Willcox age 16-26 another male age 16-26 and one female age 16-26. The female I believe was Rhoda Hedden Willcox born 1797 and married Thomas Willcox in Oct. 1819 just before they moved to Indiana. I assume the other male was a brother to Thomas? The Willcox family moved to New Albany, Floyd Co. IN. where they had two children Araminta and Stephen. Thomas died about 1835/1836. Any information on the Willcox family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tom Saxton JSAXTON@OPTONLINE.NET

My great grandparents were James Henderson Kiste and Sarah Margaret Hines. They were married Feb.1, 1872. There children were Leonard, Harvey, Rebecca Jane and Nathan. They lived in or around Martin County I believe until about 1878 or 1879. Their next child, my grandfather Isaac, was born in Omega, Illinois. At 09:30 AM 3/8/01 -0700, you wrote: >Can anyone tell me how Mitcheltree Township in Martin County, Indiana got >its name? When I was working on the 1870 Martin Census Index, I noticed that Mitcheltree is spelled various ways in various places: Mitcheltree, Mitchelltree, Mitchell Tree, etc. I put out essentially the same message as the one you sent, and received several replies, all of which indicated that the township name was originally taken from a surname "Mitcheltree." I do not know if this is the same 'George Mitcheltree' that you mention. You might wish to look in "History of Martin County" by Harry Q. Holt, if you can find a copy. There are doubtless copies in the library in Shoals, Martin Co. IN and also e.g. in Washington, Daviess Co. IN. Here are some phone and address data: Loogootee Public Library (812) 295-3713 410 N Line St. Loogootee, IN 47553 Shoals Public Library (812) 247-3838 PO Box 909 Shoals, IN 47581 Winklepleck Public Library (812) 636-4949 202 W. Main St. Odon, Indiana 47562 Washington Library "Carnegie Public Library" (812) 254-4586 300 W Main St Washington, IN 47501 The latter two are in Daviess County. I have always found the personnel at these libraries to be wonderfully helpful. John Ragle

There is a George Mitcheltree in the 1820 Census -- does anyone know anything about him?
Hello List, I am seeking the parents and siblings of GEORGE W. BURNETT, born in Indiana, November 15, 1862. I have no idea the county. That was all I could find on census, death certificate, etc. On a tape, made when she was very old, his wife Mary, related this story told to her by GEORGE. George's mother was killed in an accident or died suddenly, when he was an infant. There were other children, don't know ages or how many. George was adopted by Shoemaker/Shumaker?Shoebaker??? He lived with them until the courthouse burned. It destroyed the adoption records. I don't know his age at the time this occurred. He was in Sumner County, Kansas on April 14, 1900. On that day he married Mary M. Bell. George said he couldn't have left if the records were still available for his adoption. Reason unknown. When he left Indiana, he took back his birth name BURNETT, and continued to use it until his death. This is a brick wall. I would really appreciate any help or advise you could provide. If you have any information, you may Email me at JANETSQUAW@aol.com Thank you in advance for your help. Respectfully yours, Jan

Thank you Deah. I really enjoyed the old timers page. I'm 50 something, but I remember visiting a Great Aunt and Uncle in Amsterdam, Missouri and they had cloth tobacco pouch on the pipe where they pumped water in the kitchen (to filter out the sand?) and a two holer in the tree grove.
This really is a neat page. You may ask what does this have to do with genealogy? Well, it helps gain insight to how our ancestors lived, and there are links here that do have some surnames and family history information as well. Enjoy, Deah http://waltonfeed.com/old/
I am relaying this message on from RootsWeb. It also was announced in RootsWeb Review, in case you missed it. So don't be alarmed if lists and sites are not running for a little while. I'll still be available if you need me, in the meanwhile. Deah "List Mom" Starting at 8 a.m. PST Friday, February 23, RootsWeb will begin a planned temporary downtime for maintenance of its servers and hosting process. It will limit this downtime as much as possible, and will return with increased performance and reliability for future growth. In the meantime, please take time to visit RootsWeb.com's sister sites -- Ancestry.com and FamilyHistory.com -- where you will find additional tools such as message boards, communities, and databases to help you in the search for your ancestors. Thank you for your patience.
This was sent to me today, by a cousin in MD. Hope it is of some use to Raney's who had relatives in NY in the late 1800's. There are 2 Raney's listed near the bottom of the page. I was looking through some sites and I came across http://www.nostonesunturned.com/Main/loughlin.html This is supposed to be a dispensation list issued by Bishop Loughlin , in Brooklyn, in 1859-1866 .
