> Hello List, I am looking for more info on a Nancy/Nanny Veale born in Davies Co married to Jesse Peek and they lived in Martin Co as well. My family info states that Nancy was born in Feb 1828 and married in 1853 to Jesse and had 5 children before she died in 1866. There seems to be another Nancy R. Veale b. 1798 in SC who is also being said to have married Jesse after her first husband, Mr. Lett, died but she was in her 60's and it's hard to believe she had any children with Jesse. I have obits on two of their daughters which say that their mother's name is Nancy Veale/Veal but don't mention anything about a first husband or children. Does anyone have any info and documentation like the 1860 census on this family? Thank you for any help. Hi nanc, The St Mary's Cemetery book, Section 2 -Obits is 254 pages...is that what you want? Just want to make sure! Also, would you have any idea how I can find out what happened to my gr-gr grandfather, Jacob Yoder? He was the son of Jonathan S. Yoder and Mary Plank. Jonathan S(olomon?) Yoder died in Daviess Co bef 1880. Mary Plank Yoder died in Gypsun, Saline Co, KS 2 Jul 1907 (at home of her dau Susanna Peterson). I have pictures of Jacob and he does not dress Amish, although his family was very strong Amish all the way back to Berks Co, PA. Jacob married Nancy Mary (Angeline?) Yount 14 Feb 1872 in Daviess Co. He m2 Barbara Keller 6 Sept 1884 in Daviess Co. Jacob and Nancy had three known children and I'm trying to clear a mystery on a 4th: Grover C. Yoder (talk has it he was in prison) m. Lillie _____ Maria Angeline Yoder (Mary) m. John Hillary Mattingly; m2 LeRoy Coward Effie m. ___Guess Alice?? (Alcie?) Mary Yoder Mattingly Coward was my gr-grandma, she died in 1952. Know anything about Grover C. Yoder, Effie Yoder Guess or an Alcie Yoder? Thanks much! xoxo

Hi Nancy, Ellen Loretta Mattingly Elsey is in some pictures my mother got from my Grandma Bea Mattingly Bowling. Loretta was her half-sister. This Mattingly line has been kind of elusive for me. John Hillary Mattingly and Elizabeth F. Bellwood had 8 children, she died and in 1890 he married my gr-grandmother, Maria Angeline Yoder when she was 15 and he was 50. John Hillary Mattingly died in 1909 and Mary Yoder Mattingly died in 1952. The 8 children of John and Elizabeth were: Mary J. b 1863 Anna D. b 1865 Henry Sylvester b. 1868 m. Laura J. Gootee Elizabeth b 1871 m. Jule Courtot Martha Emma b. 1874 m. Aldo Blough Clara Jane b. 1877 m. Charles E. Hunter Ellen Loretta b. ? m. Isaac N. Elsey John Francis b. 1885 m. Flavilla Decker The children of John Hillary Mattingly and Maria Angeline Yoder were: Mary Agnes "Minnie" m. Clyda Alpha Taylor Charles Joseph m. Maude Fenters William Stanislaus m. Ruth V. Beers Nancy Tibertus Bridget "Bea" m. Harry J. Bowling John Hillary Mattingly was the son of Sylvester Mattingly and Mary Ellen Smith. Elizabeth Bellwood was the dau of Samuel Bellwood and Rachel Drury. Shirley

She said Vena had a daughter by William Strange named Betty and she lived in a home in Indianapolis until she was 12 years old. Vena married Lewis Blair and had several children. We lived next door to them when I was a kid. After seeing the 1920 census record for Vena, I feel there is something wrong since she is not living with Wm. Strange. She is living with her mother & step father. 1920 census - Perry Twp. #110 John F. Sanders, 31 Flora, 36 Curtis Elsey, step son, 20 Venie Strange, 17, step daughter Grace Elsey, 16, step daughter Ora Elsey, step son, 11 Hattie Elsey, step daug. 9 Dorothy Sanders, 6 Edna, 4 Robert, 2 John F. Sanders married Flora Hotz Elsey, 12-25-1919. Wm. A. Strange & Vena Elsey were married 8-16-1919. Flora Hotz was married to Thomas W. Elsey. Isaac Elsey is son of Edward & Sarah Elsey according to 1900 census of Perry Twp. Please let me know what is going on. In Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/In/Martin/10158 Surname: Strange, Elsey ------------------------- I am in search of any descendants of William Strange. He was married to my grandmother (Vena Elsey) on August 16, 1919 in Martin Cty, IN. His parents were William Joseph and Anna M. (Miles) Strange. He had a sister named Gladys who married Ernest Butcher. I believe he worked for the railroad and lived in both Daviess and Martin Cnties., IN. His date of birth is October 10, 1894 and died June 1971. His marriage with Vena resulted in one child. She is now in search of any family she may have on his side of the family. For reasons unknown the daughter ended up living in Indianapolis and knew very little of her father. I would appreciate any help or info.
Ron, Is the Solomon Gibson listed below the same Solomon Gibson that married Elizabeth Stagg? They had a daughter, Elizabeth, who married Henry Cochran in Martin Co. Apr 1860. I've had no luck so far on this line and I am really hopeful that you have information. If they are the same, then Solomon is my ggg-grandfather and I will put the reunion on my calendar! Anxious to hear from you. Thanks. To find the price of Bill Whorrall's book you might try contacting the Historical Society, Genealogical Society, or library. Maybe they have a copy and could look to see how much it cost? K

About all I could do is go back through my old archived checks, but it has been a couple of years, so it would amount to a hill of digging. My recollection is that the book, soft-bound, is reasonably-priced, say less than $40. It is a folio-sized book about 1.5 inches thick. I would suggest you call Bill directly, but I don't find him in Yahoo. A likely person to try would be Larry Whorrall [I don't know the relationship, if any]: Larry Whorrall 203 W Washington St Loogootee, IN (812)295-3110 John Ragle
Nancy: Thank you so much! This will help me immensely!!!!! I do believe he must have been a brother to my James! James was born in Clark Co., IN, but moved to Jackson Co.,, about the time he was 18 yrs old, then mustered into the CW in Bartholomew Co., James was born in 1843.....I believe this is going to start working out. This is the exact information I've been missing, and wasn't sure what was missing, you know, that brick wall? Sometimes it's not the brick wall that your hitting, it's the brick wall in your head, when you've been working so hard, and you forget what clues you really need to go after, after awhile!!!
