    1. [INMARTIN] 1860 census look-up Radcliff
    2. Brooks
    3. Hi Michele. Thanks for getting back to me. I did figure from the information in the 1870 online that Elizabeth probably traces back to James or Richard. I didn't think to ask for a look-up in the 1860 census though. I found them in the index I use: 1860 Martin Co. Census Halbert Twnshp. James Ratliffe (Radcliff) pg. 925 Richard Ratliffe (Radcliff) pg. 909 Could someone see if either of these has a daughter Elizabeth abt. 10-12? I have asked someone to check for me on the 1870 census to see exactly where the family break is on page 323. It wasn't clear from the online alphabetical listing. Are William and Elizabeth living with Jacob? Could Jacob be her brother? Thank you. I'd say your Elizabeth is the daughter of either Richard or James. It's not circumstantial that they are living so close to these families. To determine which you might try reading the 1860 census for Martin Co., Halbert Twp. Look for Richard or James to have a daughter Elizabeth aged 10-12. Or find a probate for either of these men. 3. My apologies to you all. Things have been in an uproar on the home front lately. We had a family reunion weekend before last that I had been working on since last year. And the usual spring/early summer jobs outside were keeping me busy. To top it off, a week ago Sunday, a storm came through and blew our mobile home off it's foundation. We have been having to stay in town ever since. I am out here for a while today, and trying to catch up on mail. I have one phone line back in service, and we have power again obviously. But there is much work yet to be done. They got the trailer moved back on the foundation evening before last, and blocked and leveled yesterday. Today they anchored it back down. I'm still not sure where this all will end up. We have requested the adjustor come back out, as we keep finding more problems. The flooring has pulled away from the floor joists, the roof dips and sways, and the front door, frame and all, is out of kilter. We're hoping to be able to move back in tomorrow, but still won't have gas, water, or sewer lines. But we are survivors and we can use a sump pump to get water if we need it. There is still roof and siding repairs, and the central air was wiped out, so it has to be replaced. I had really thought that once I got through the reunion, things would settle down and I could get back to being more busy with lists. Silly me! :O) So I do apologize for my silence, and hopefully now things will start leveling back out. Deah

"Kecksville," "Keck's Church," and "Burns City" are essentially the same community, though the former two were not precisely at the same location as what is now known as Burns City. As far as I know, the original "Keck's Church" was a bit north of the present-day Burns City, perhaps a fraction of a mile, perhaps a bit more. Burns City is midway down the western edge of the Crane Naval Weapons Center, and just outside the boundary. In an 1876 Atlas and on an 1854 map, Kecksville is shown at the bottom of grid square 32 in the extreme southwest corner of McCameron Twp. near where the boundary between Daviess and Martin Co. runs east/west. On my 1999 Rand-McNally atlas, Burns City seems to share the same location, but the grid squares are not shown. The location is about 6 miles as the crow flies east southeast of Odon. John Ragle

    3. Hi Nancy, Thanks for the 1850 info but I had already seen that. You've helped me before with my Peek family and I appreciate you looking this up. What I was hoping for was an 1860 census when she would have been married to Jesse and I could verify which Nancy he married - the 1798 in SC or the 1828 in IN. I will keep checking and hoping there are more Veale researchers out there who may be familiar with my Nancy. Thank you! 1. [INMARTIN] Owens
    2. Hello Vernon in CT, You wrote about searching for any other members of the Owens family. Most of my research is on Owen Owens (1746) and his family. I found two William Owens, but I don't have data on either one. Sorry, I do not have any info on Elizabeth Baker or Rosetta Funkhauser. If you are interested in Owen Owens, he came to Augusta County, VA then to Fincastle in 1772. The family tradition as told about 1913 stated that Owen Owens was born in North Wales. He was a minister and educated for the period of time in which he lived. He served as an aide and mail carrier for General Marion in the American Revolution. He lived in Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and settled in Indiana in 1830. He died in the northern part of the state in 1809, and he was buried in the Breckenridge Cemetery near Bedford, Indiana. Owen Owens met an Irish girl on board the ship on which he came to America and later married her after a season of apprenticeship to pay for the passage. John Fleece Owens said his grandfather, Owen Owens, came from Wales and his grandmother, Sophia Wade was born in Ireland. They worked their way over from the old country and settled in Tennessee. A check of the Washington County records gave a reference to Owen Owens as a minister of the gospel of the Baptist Church. Good Luck to you on your search, Mary Ann Wade
