    1. RE: [MARION COUNTY, IN] Blackburn around Castleton 1930's, 1960's

    3. Hi, Try contacting www.hepl.lib.in.us This is the Hamilton East Public Library. They have a genealogy collection (The Indiana Room and will have lots of local information.) The librarians are usually very helpful. Background on the location: Castleton used to be a sleepy little junction. In the 1970-80s a large shopping mall was built (between 82nd and 86th Streets) and the whole area is now very commercial. (Indianapolis has incorporated most small towns inside the Marion County borders and Castleton was one of these.) The dividing line between Hamilton County and Marion County is 96th Street. (All the streets that run east/west are numbered starting at 0 in the center of Indianapolis - at Washington Street aka US 40; the National Road - and increasing in number as they head north.) Fishers, Indiana is the "town" directly north of the Castleton area, which is between 96th and 146th street. There are several very small cemeteries in this area. It too was once very rural and is now one of the fastest growing suburban areas in the country. I do know that there is a small cemetery located about 80th Street in Castleton and borders Interstate I-69. I am not sure of the name but I know that I saw that someone took pictures and indexed the graves (I think it was listed on the Marion cty rootweb site.) The cemetery borders the parking lot of August Mack Environmental. The library probably has a list of the smaller cemeteries and should have some more ideas. Good Luck. -----Original Message----- From: Kinklector@aol.com [mailto:Kinklector@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, October 13, 2005 2:06 PM To: INMARION-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MARION COUNTY, IN] Blackburn around Castleton 1930's, 1960's I have two loose end Blackburns and so far I can't figure out where they are buried. 1) Jesse William Blackburn & his wife Flossie J. (Kesselring). They had no children. But I don't want to leave them out of my book, either! He was born in 1880 in Hamilton Co and she was born 1888 in Boone Co (both IN). I found him in a city directory in 1958. His address was 6706 E. 82nd, Castleton, IN. He would have been about 78 years old. I ran the address through Google and it gave me the street, but said it was in Indy, and it was a Starbuck's. I ran cemeteries around that address. I called Oaklawn, Union Chapel, and Crown Hill. Neither Jesse or his wife was there. Since Jesse had siblings in Fishers, I ran cemeteries around there. Hamilton Memorial Park is only 8 years old and I got no answer at Crownland. The guy at Hamilton told me to call Crownland before 12 noon. So I will do that tomorrow. 2) Grover C. Blackburn (Jesse's brother), was born in 1886 in Fishers. He married and divorced and had no children. The only info I can get is from his 86 year old niece who had a stroke last year. She said he died in a special home next to the V.A. Hospital from some illness. She thought he died after WWII. I think he died sometime between the 1930 census and 1946 (brother Charles died in 1946 and Grover is not mentioned in the obit). Again, he's not in any of those cemeteries above. Does anyone have any idea of where to look for these people?
