Would someone who goes near Shara Tefilla Cemetery (Jewish) at Kelley St and South Meridian be able to take a tombstone photo for me? (JOSEPH is the surname.) Shara Tefilla is across from Holy Cross Cemetery. I am hoping/trying to prove Lipman JOSEPH is a brother to my G GF. Lipman is buried in Shara Tefilla in Row L-39. His two wifes may be next to him, Etta and Rachel. Sometimes Jewish tombstones have parents listed in Hebrew. If this is the case, it will help me prove they were brothers. So far nothing else has--not d/c, funeral home record, or SSDI. If anyone has other suggestions where parents' names might be listed on documents, I'd be more than grateful for additional ideas. Lipman was born 1866 in Russia and died June 2, 1942. (I am currently waiting for an obit.) Thanks very much, Marcia Snyder TX

Marcia: Let me preface my remarks by saying I am non-Jewish so excuse my ignorance as I proceed. I did locate the grave of Lipman Joseph today. The stone says FATHER with birth & death years. The backside of the tombstone does have several lines of Hebrew. I photographed both the front & back. I have 10 blank negatives left before I need to develop the film To the left of Lipman Joseph is Wm. Borinstein 1868-1940. To the right of Lipman Joseph is Sakowitz, Negha 1883-1958 and Louis 1885-1967. Several feet away and in a different row is a stone that reads WIFE Ray Joseph 1870-1928. Other JOSEPH families are buried in other parts of the cemetery. I copied some of them but do not take this list as being all-inclusive. I had no map or listing of family members so it is the stones that I stumbled upon that I copied. There was Louis Joseph 1862-1930 & Bessie 1873-1941. These graves had Hebrew on the reverse side. There was also Father & Beloved Husband, Jacob 1895-1942 with Hebrew on the reverse. There was Tobias Joseph 1890-1950 with Hebrew on the back. There was Father Gustave (1859-1921) & Mother Helana (1863-1928) Joseph . There was Celia O. Joseph 1868-1934, Louis N. 1869-1930 & Edgar S. 1903-1941 in a family grouping. The largest family grouping was Clara 1861-1934, Jonas 1846-1923, Jackiel W. 1887-1950 and Essie B. 1896-1982 I did not find an Etta or Rachel Joseph. However, again, I could have missed them. I do know they were not close to Lipman's burial site. I hope this info has been of some help to you. NOW: I need educated. Several of the gravesites had concrete borders about 3 x 6 with small rocks inside the borders. Do the rocks represent anything? Also, several normal gravestones had small rocks atop them. Again, does that signify anything?
