Hello My name is Pat Mitchell. I live in Joliet, IL. I am 71 yrs old and in very poor health so traveling is a hardship on me. I would like to appeal to the readers of this mailing list for help. I have been searching for information on this lady for over 20 years. Her name was Almedia Evans. She was born 12/25/1861 in Saline County, IL. She moved to Indianapolis when she was a young adult. (date unknown) She may have been pregnant and passed herself off as a widow. (She had a daughter (date unknown) who died at a young age.) At one time she owned or ran a resturant in Indianapolis. I found her in the 1920 census with occupation as Dining Room. In the 1900 and 1910 census she is listed as a boarder living with another family. She died pennieless around the early to mid 1940's. She was in a nursing home with one or both legs amputated due to diebetes. Would it be possible for someone to check the city directories for information about Almedia Evans. I cannot find her in Saline County IL 1880 census. She would have been 18 and could have moved to Indiana by then. If someone could chech the city directories during the time of 1880 thru the 1940's I would be eternally grateful. Or if anyone has any sugestions for me to find information please let me know.
