Hi Dee: Do you have the names of any of William's brothers or sisters that might help to identify him? Also, have you found him anywhere in the census that might give the birthplace of his father? There are Hobson's in the 1850 census in Parke County, Indiana, with a William who was born ca 1840 and the family originated in North Carolina. The marriage records go back to the early 1800's and the birth and death records for 1882-1920 were released by the WPA. If you found his birth record in a family bible that will probably be the most original birth record that you will find for William. I don't know of any birth records before 1882. If I can be of further help, please let me know.
