Hello, I am still trying to find my GG Grandfather, and it was suggested I try the city directories, as he died between census. If anyone has the 1880-1885 Indianapolis directories, please look for Edward Smith, who married Bridget Breen. (I don't know the year or where they married, but she came to America in 1880.) They had a daughter Anna Francis in 1883 and a son John Edward in 1885. According to Bridget's obit in 1931, Edward (the subject) died in 1884 or 1885. He also went by the name Captain Edward Smith.
