I have a page from the 1880 census which is impossible to read, I think page 12 and I think it is Lawrence Twp? Or something that starts with a "G"? Really hard to read. Could SKS please look and see if that is Geo. W. Starkey on the page. If so, please tell me the names below him and if the following person is a Klinger-if so, the names of those, also? Thanks very much. Roslyn -----

Grandparents came to IN from Southern Kentucky about 1910 or so. Grandfather worked for Pennsylvania railroad. In later years, upon retirement, he was able to buy a very small house. He died in the 1950's in Indianapolis, IN. Would there be a Copy of the Deed on file somewhere, which might give information about him and his family in Kentucky ? Thank you for information & advice. My g-gfather died at the Indiana State Soldiers Home in Lafayette, Tippicanoe Co, IN, in 1921. I'm not sure when it closed or where the records are, but I'd check with that county's Genealogical Society or a library in the area. I have an ancestor who died in the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Indianapolis, Indiana, which is Marion Co. However, on his CW record Grant Co, IN is also mentioned. Does anyone know whether there were homes for CW (and maybe Spanish was vets), in both areas. Also, is it possible that there would be records somewhere of the veterans who were living in these homes. Thanks for any info that anyone may provide Virgene in northwest Indiana
Jane CUTBIRTH and Green DeWITT were mar. in Morgan Co IN, 12 Mar. 1830 Francis HENDRICKS is shown on Marion Co 1920 census living with Eliza FAIR/FARR and son, Wm. ROSS. There were FAIR families in Morgan Co IN. Melinda Hendricks GARRETT mar. Wm. FAIR, after the death of her husband. She was a sister of Thompson HENDRICKS. Francis age 52 is very likely the son of CW soldier Isaac HENDRICKS. Isaac was b 7 Aug. 1840, in Hendricks Co IN, and d 8 Mar 1908, in Marion Co IN. He had been living in the Soldiers and Sailors Home. According to his CW file, he lived in many different places in Marion Co IN, and also Boone Co IN, after serving in the war. The "old Isaac HENDRICKS" I had mentioned who lived in Hancock Co IN was b. in NC and was listed as age 79 on the Hanc 1850 census. He was living in Wayne Co IN when he purchased his land. An Isaac Hendricks mar. Lydia *JONES*, in Wayne Co IN, 18 July, 1837. An Isaac HENDRICKS and wife, Lydia, sold this same land 9 Nov 1837 to Geo. WILLITT. Both signed with a mark -- I have the indenture. An Isaac HENDRICKS mar Jane DeWETT(DeWITT?) 1 Feb 1844, in Hendricks Co IN. The Hancock Co 1850 census lists an Isaac HENDRIX age 79, and Jane age 47 b. KY, along with Jeremiah WALKER who mar. Jane BRADT and James SKIMERHORN age 17. There were SCHEMEHORNS in Hendricks Co IN (shown on 1850 census). When CW soldier Isaac HENDRICKS gave testimony related to receiving a pension he mentioned Robert DAY. On the 1900 census Robert DAY and Isaac are shown as partners in ditching or well digging. Hope this is not as skewed as former emails...have had to make many corrections. Virgene

Hello, I'm new to this list. I'm trying to obtain information on an Ada Clark/Clarke who died in Beech Grove, Marion, Indiana according to the SSDI. She was born December 31, 1880 in Washington, DC and according to the SSDI died in April 1970. She was quite old when she died so perhaps she was in a skilled nursing facility or hospital. Would someone on this list have access to obits for that timeframe? If she is the correct gal, she was not buried with her family in Congressional Cemetery in DC so I'm anxious to locate where she died and where she is buried. Perhaps her work took her to the Beech Grove locale. Thanks for any help you can send my way!
Joyce, You're welcome. Good luck! Mariah
Thank you Mariah. I looked on EBay and saw bunches of the phone directories. I'll check back every week or so for Indiana phone books. I really appreciate the tip. Joyce
Hi, Joyce, I bought all three of my telephone directories from separate eBay auctions. There are usually at least a few directories up for auction each week, so maybe you can keep an eye out for any that are from the areas that you're interested in? There's also a site online with a list of Indiana directories that they will search for you for a small fee. The fee for one search is $5.00 and the fee for two or more searches requested at the same time is $3.00 each. I've never used this service myself, but apparently they provide you with photocopies of the page(s) which list any surname requested. Here's the link: _http://members.aol.com/CGSystems/DXSearch.htm_ (http://members.aol.com/CGSystems/DXSearch.htm) I hope that this is at least of some help to you. If you (or anyone else) would like me to do a lookup in one of my own telephone directories, please let me know. Mariah
Mariah, Where did you get the telephine directory and do you think it's possible to get them for other years and areas? I'd love to have some for when my father was a child so I can see where the aunts and uncles lived that he talks about. That would be about 1925-1940 for Indianapolis, Clinton and Terre Haute. Thank you, Joyce Shannon Z
