    3. Hi, My great-grandfather, Alfred Tarleton SINKER and his wife Rebecca nee COATES lived in Indianapolis and were members of a literary society named 'The Fiat Lux'. Apparently, in 1876 he was vice president of the society according to some papers which which are in our family's possession. Has anyone else ever come across references to this society? I was wondering how long it existed and if there are any records which still might exist. - Ed Sinker

    3. Milly-- I would like a look-up, if you wouldn't mind please. I have four Doyle brothers from Highland County, VA, who were part of the 31st VA Infantry, Companies B and G and later combined into the 25th VA Infantry. The story I have is that all four were captured during the Battle of the Wilderness and sent to Point Lookout and from there to Elmira Prison in NY. Two of these brothers made it home. A third died shortly after arrival in Elmira, apparently from wounds received during the battle. The fourth's whereabouts were unknown until about a year ago when I believe I may have found his grave. He also died in Elmira Prison, apparently of starvation shortly before the war was over. Would like to know what you find on the four men, if you would do a look up. 1. Eli Doyle, November 14, 1825, 31st VA Inf., died January 7, 1905, in Valley Center, VA 2. John Floyd Doyle, June 18, 1829, 31st VA Inf., Co. G. (believed to have died in Elmira Prison, NY, March 3, 1865 and buried in Woodlawn National Cemetery, plot CSA 0 2012) 3. William Doyle, June 18, 1827, 31st VA Inf., Co. B, died March 15, 1888, in Clover Creek, Pocahontas County, VA 4. George W. Doyle, November 14, 1830, died May 17, 1904 (no info on whether or not he served in the military, but am presuming that he did since the other boys of the family did; however, he may have been the one son who remained behind to tend property and care for the women) 5. Jacob Doyle, April 8, 1834, 31st VA Inf., Co. B, died September 18, 1864, in Elmira Prison (buried in Woodlawn National Cemetery, plot CSA 0 512) Debbi Tower ----- Original Message ----- From: <MPiros1120@aol.com> To: <INMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 22, 2005 11:54 PM Subject: Re: [MARION COUNTY, IN] Point Lookout Prison Camp for Confederates > Bette, > > Do you want me to look someone up? 1. Deaths after 1958
    2. I tried Ancestry, the SSDI, & the Marion Co Rootsweb page. No luck. I was speaking with a new-found distant cousin. She's 85 and has had a stroke. She gives me what bits and pieces she can remember. Her uncle, Jesse (Jess) William Blackburn was married to Flossie (Kesselring) and lived sort of north, around Castleton in 1958. She said her son was 2 and kept messing around with "Uncle Jess's" walker. She can't remember when he died except some time after that. He was a carpenter and then a farmer, so that's probably why there was no entry in the SSDI. Is there any type of IN death index that goes from 1958 to the early 1960's? Thanks, Cheri Mello Torrance, CA

    2. Marian M.
    3. In searching for my Spahr ancestors, I now have copies of the death certificate, plus the records from Crown Hill Cemetery. These records show that her middle name was "Mariah" in some cases (death certificate) and "Mary" on the records of Crown Hill. According to her death certificate, her father's name was Henry Spahr but does not have her mother's name. She died 27 April 1928 and interred 30 April 1928.. According to the Crown Hill records, she was born in Indiana on 16 August 1835. Linda: does this fit with any of the information you have? I would appreciate information anyone else might be able to give me about my g-great grandmother Smith. Marian Smith-Maxwell Mandelstam

    3. Thank you for replying. I am going to show my ignorance now, and ask a question. As you know. they have a list of surnames already indexed, and it shows how many articles they have for that surname, and how far back (in years) the index goes for the particular surname. I have these names I C/P'd off their site: PEAK 162 1865 PEAKE 35 1879 BREEN 170 1885 CLENDENING 46 1908 Based on what I think I read concerning price, I would have to pay $20 per surname to see the article indexs (no matter how many are listed)? I don't know if you saw it or not, but you are entitled to receive any additonal indexs for your surname(s) that have been posted since your original request. I am not clear on those prices either !! Thank You so much for answering me, Cece

    3. The way that I understand it, most surnames cost $20 per state.....if you want the search for both states it is $35........ (and if you want to re-order the same names later.............it is half price, so $10 and you get the full report again with all of the updates), it really isn't too bad, but some of the smaller counties are not covered. It is wonderful though if you don't have all of the dates that you need. I found 118 deaths that I did not have in my research, went directly to the articles to determine if they were my family and copied the ones that were. What counties are you looking in???? Does the index of the newspapers covered...........contain the area that you seek?? I don't know if you realize it, Peak/Peake would be considered ONE search, I got Mobley, Moberely, Moberly, and all variations. So that would be 3 searches instead of 4............. Let me know if you decide to do it (one on one please), if you don't live in Indianapolis, and I can look up the actual acticles for you. 3. Yes, I have. I did about 10 years ago, so they definately have been around a long time. If you would like to see what they sent me, I will have to find it and I could scan and send it to you. They send the dates and type of article (birth notice, death notice, obituary, marriage.........but only from select newspapers around the state, they will show you the list of newspapers covered). I live in Indianapolis, and the report came in very hand because I could take the list they sent to the Indiana State Library and look up each and every article and get copies.
