Cheri: As a former resident of the Castleton area, I recall the Blackburn Family there. Many of the Castleton residents were buried at Union Chapel Cemetery in Washington Twp. Oaklawn Cemetery (just north of 96th St on Allisonville Rd) was not established as a cemetery until about the 1960's (guesstimate). Union Chapel does not have a listing on the "net". If you would like, I could make a call and try to find out if the Blackburns are buried there and let you know. My second guess would be the Highland-Beaver Cemetery, just east of Fishers, Hamiliton Co, IN. I will check there if I don't find them at Union Chapel. Hi Cheri: The Genealogical Society of Marion County has a list of cemeteries by township. Here is the link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ingsmc/Pages/Cemeteries_of_Marion_County.htm From this list, they also have links to cemetery readings. Please note that Castleton is in Lawrence Township. Hi, Try contacting www.hepl.lib.in.us This is the Hamilton East Public Library. They have a genealogy collection (The Indiana Room and will have lots of local information.) The librarians are usually very helpful. Background on the location: Castleton used to be a sleepy little junction. In the 1970-80s a large shopping mall was built (between 82nd and 86th Streets) and the whole area is now very commercial. (Indianapolis has incorporated most small towns inside the Marion County borders and Castleton was one of these.) The dividing line between Hamilton County and Marion County is 96th Street. (All the streets that run east/west are numbered starting at 0 in the center of Indianapolis - at Washington Street aka US 40; the National Road - and increasing in number as they head north.) Fishers, Indiana is the "town" directly north of the Castleton area, which is between 96th and 146th street. There are several very small cemeteries in this area. It too was once very rural and is now one of the fastest growing suburban areas in the country. I do know that there is a small cemetery located about 80th Street in Castleton and borders Interstate I-69. I am not sure of the name but I know that I saw that someone took pictures and indexed the graves (I think it was listed on the Marion cty rootweb site.) The cemetery borders the parking lot of August Mack Environmental. The library probably has a list of the smaller cemeteries and should have some more ideas. Good Luck. -----Original Message----- From: Kinklector@aol.com [mailto:Kinklector@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, October 13, 2005 2:06 PM To: INMARION-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MARION COUNTY, IN] Blackburn around Castleton 1930's, 1960's I have two loose end Blackburns and so far I can't figure out where they are buried. 1) Jesse William Blackburn & his wife Flossie J. Hi George in MA, According to The Indianapolis Star, 20 Nov 1914, pg.1 "Louis Hollweg, proprietor of the firm of Hollweg & Reese, wholesale china and glassware dealers, will retire from the firm on Jan. 1, and will divide his stock among a number of his old and trusted employes.... Mr. Hollweg is one of the pioneer busi- ness men of Indianapolis.... also has an interest in the wholesale dry goods firm of Hibben, Hollweg & Co. He will retain his connection with this firm....... Mr. Hollweg will spend most of his time at his residence, 963 North Meridian street... It is a long article with lots more detail but as you can see, he as alive at this date. According to the Crown Hill Cemetery website there are two Louis Hollweg's, presumably father and son. One was buried 8/26/1925 and the other 7/8/1930. I don't have any more time, at the moment to do any more than that. Hope that helps, - Ed
Hello List - Louis Hollweg lived and worked in Indianapolis from about 1866 through 1910. He was 69 years old in 1910 and doesn't appear in the 1920 Census report. Might someone have a death index for this period of time and look up his date of death? If there is no index, where are death records recorded for Marion County? Thanks for what ever help you may be able to provide. George in MA
