Mt.Jackson has a website listing burials.
Hi Pam: We grew up not far from that neighborhood. In fact, my ggrandmother lived right around the corner from Pershing on Howard Street. I checked to see if he was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery but he isn't. There is an Edgar R. Hill but not Edgar L. Hill. I think the closest cemetery to that neighborhood was Mount Jackson which was northwest of there but I don't think they had any burials there after 1930. The one cemetery just west of Mount Jackson is Floral Park. I just called to see if he was buried there but they are closed now. You might want to try them in the morning: Floral Park 3659 Cossell Road | Indianapolis, IN 46222 | 317-241-9311 Nan Nancy Lee White County Coordinator for Marion and Ohio Counties INGenExchange and County Coordinator for Hardin and Union Counties OHGenExchange http://www.genexchange.org/county.php?state=in&county=marion http://www.genexchange.org/county.php?state=in&county=ohio http://www.genexchange.org/county.php?state=oh&county=hardin http://www.genexchange.org/county.php?state=oh&county=union Volunteers have a warm fuzzy feeling! Hi Marcia: That is a great CD and it is the one I have. Bear in mind too that it is the old WPA records and covered, I think, about 67 counties. The southern counties like Dearborn, Ohio, Switzerland, etc aren't included. Before 1920, it was rather a hit and miss situation as to whether a vital record was reported. The following is a great resource for earlier deaths in Marion County: Darlington, Jane E., Indianapolis Marion County, Indiana Mortality Record, 1 September 1872- 31 December 1881. 1989 Nan Nancy Lee White County Coordinator for Marion and Ohio Counties INGenExchange and County Coordinator for Hardin and Union Counties OHGenExchange http://www.genexchange.org/county.php?state=in&county=marion http://www.genexchange.org/county.php?state=in&county=ohio http://www.genexchange.org/county.php?state=oh&county=hardin http://www.genexchange.org/county.php?state=oh&county=union Volunteers have a warm fuzzy feeling! The back cover states: "This CD-ROM indexes 867,132 Death records in the state of Indiana from 1800-1941... from 68 counties in IN." I did a sort for date and it is true. There are three deaths listed in 1800; one person listed in 1941. There are many also listed with no name or year and only an age and county and source. This is a good CD and a big help, but know your ancestor may have died in Indiana and not be listed here. There are 92 counties now, so your odds searching are good, but not perfect. Not everyone in every county is listed and some got missed. (I know for a fact some of my ancestors are not on this CD and died in Marion county in years where others also died in Marion county. I have searched every way and they are not to be found.) I hope this helps. These CD-ROM disks also require a 100-megahertz or faster Pentium processor, at least 16 megabytes of RAM memory, and 4-speed or faster CD-ROM drive. Heritage Quest has a winner in these CD-ROM disks. They contain high-quality genealogy information: extracted indexes of original vital records. They are a bit expensive, however: • Indiana Vital Records Birth Index, 1850-1920 - $39.95 • Indiana Vital Records Marriage Index, 1850-1920 - $69.95 • Indiana Vital Records Death Index, 1800-1941 - $29.95 The above prices do not include shipping or taxes. I know you can see and copy at the Indiana State library. I have purchased obits and articles by going to IndyStar.com. These have been rather recent events. Didn't try anything from that far back in time. I am sure you'll get good advice from some genealogists residing in the Indy area. Good Luck.
