    3. Thank you very much for this information, some of it I didn't have, and it will be quite useful. I also noticed that Abraham/Abram had children well into his 70s...... which leads me to believe he was married before Elizabeth. I am so interested in Abraham (b. abt 1789 in PA) because I believe he is somehow related to a William W. Haines who was born abt 1812 in Ohio, and d. in Peru, Indiana in 1898. The reason I believe this is: I have Edward T. Haines ( son to William W. ) civil war pension papers and one of the witnesses on the papers is a Cyrus O. Haines (son to Abraham Haines) who states he has known Edward for 40 yrs. This was in 1900 which means they would have known each other in 1860 -- Edward was born in Ohio abt 1847, and his family moved to Indiana abt 1850. Cyrus was born abt 1842 in Indiana - nothing I have on either family states that they lived even remotely close ...... strong possibilty they would be related. Now the question is: How? That's where William W. comes in ...... everything I have on him states he was born in Ohio, and his parents were born in Pennsylvania but no names (Abraham was born in PA and moved to OH). I have chunks of a family that should fit together but I am not finding the connecting piece. Very frustrating family! Since your person died in 1992, it should have his parents, and burial spot. An obit might tell you that also. Address of the Health Dept is Marion County Health Dept Dept 72 3838 N. 3. Found the family of John Merritt in 1850 in Vinton ,Ohio and Nancy M Sage is with them then. House no 37. House no 35 is Amos Roberts and he has a Stephen Sage living with the family. He is possibly Nancy's brother. On the LDS Family Search webpage in the IGI someone had submitted the family and listed Elizabeth as Elizabeth Sage. The children with the exception of Mary A were born in Elk Twp.,Athens,Ohio, she Grant Co.,IN.. Haven't found any of them in 1870 or 80 yet. You need to see the Orphans Court Records for Vinton,O to see if Nancy A and Stephen are listed. It might tell who their parents were. 2. I am wondering-- do the folks who work where the marriages and divorces are kept do look-ups? I know there is a fee. The marriages/divorces are on the lowest level of the city/county building downtown, correct? And what is the name of the place where obits are kept? I know it is by the canal. I am planning on doing this myself, whenever the weather gets nicer, but if the fee is not that much I was thinking of letting the workers do it. I was planning on visiting the marriage place, the obit place and then Crown Hill to get some tombstone pictures in one day. Thanks. Helen Zuber Keusch

    2. Hello My name is Pat Mitchell. I live in Joliet, IL. I am 71 yrs old and in very poor health so traveling is a hardship on me. I would like to appeal to the readers of this mailing list for help. I have been searching for information on this lady for over 20 years. Her name was Almedia Evans. She was born 12/25/1861 in Saline County, IL. She moved to Indianapolis when she was a young adult. (date unknown) She may have been pregnant and passed herself off as a widow. (She had a daughter (date unknown) who died at a young age.) At one time she owned or ran a resturant in Indianapolis. I found her in the 1920 census with occupation as Dining Room. In the 1900 and 1910 census she is listed as a boarder living with another family. She died pennieless around the early to mid 1940's. She was in a nursing home with one or both legs amputated due to diebetes. Would it be possible for someone to check the city directories for information about Almedia Evans. I cannot find her in Saline County IL 1880 census. She would have been 18 and could have moved to Indiana by then. If someone could chech the city directories during the time of 1880 thru the 1940's I would be eternally grateful. Or if anyone has any sugestions for me to find information please let me know. Thank you very much Pat Mitchell

    3. Thanks so much, I should have came to the great state of Indiana a long time ago and asked around. I will have to check, but here is what I have below and if anyone can correct me please let me know. Most of the information I got from my grandmother (a little bit) and her mothers (Violet Soule) Bible (really bad condition). So I thank you. I will look into what you have given me and my grandmother - Joan Soule- was put in an orphanage in PA around 1944 or before the year her mother passed. It is a little sketchy on her part, but I have tried the list for orphanages and in the county in PA, no response at least not a hammer on the nail type of response. So thanks a lot and if the LIGHT can get any brighter on this I would appreciate the help, as I am trying to put the pieces of the puzzle as close to the best I can before her time is up. It is my mission to show her, HER distant relatives of time. Thanks 1 Percil R.
