Barbara, I don't know if it helps, but my oldest son has an ancestor that although English, came from Germany. The family was sent to Germany to attend an English Princess that married a German Prince. The family kept its English characteristics although the family (three generations if I remember right) was in Germany a lengthy time before coming on to Maryland sometime around 1700 to 1750.
