This is the quote I mentioned earlier today. It comes from John Mack Faragher's "Daniel Boone: The Life and Legend of an American Pioneer" published 1992, Henry Holt & Co., p. 76: "Boone, John Findley, John Stewart, and three others left the Upper Yadkin for Kentucky on May 1, 1769, their equipment packed on ten or fifteen horses. Each man carried his own rifle, powder hons, bullet pouch, and hunting knife, but they also needed extra stores of flint, steel, tinder, powder, and lead, as well as tools for casting bullets, traps, blankets, camp kettles, salt, and other provisions. 'Boone was the only woodsman,' said nephew Daniel Boone Bryan, 'tho' Stewart was pretty good with a gun.' In fact, Stewart, married to Boone's sister Hannah and ten years his junior, had been west of the Appalachians the year before with a party of hunters led by another of Boone's companions, Benjamin Cutbeard. The Cutbeard party hunted and trapped for several months in Tennessee and successfully sold their catch in New Orleans, although they were robbed by Indians on their return. Stewart thus had valuable experience, and Nathan Boone said that his father 'had all the confidence in him that one man could have in another.' Stewart possessed that most essential requisite of a hunting companion, said Boone: you could count on him to always be in the right spot at the right time. Little is known about the other three--James Mooney, Joseph Holden and William Cooley--except that they were neighbors from the Upper Yadkin and were to act as 'camp keepers,' preparing the skins and assembling them in packs." The possibility exists that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were part of the Cutbeard expedition in 1768. Also, someone sent me a message recently concerning a Sarah Inman who was supposedly the first wife of Daniel Boone. I have never found a Sarah Inman mentioned in any of the Boone biographies. A Sarah Inman may have been married to one of the other Boones, however.
