    3. I name immediately caught my attention in your message: Baldwin. And I am a descendant of Edward Inman of Rhode Island. Years ago, while sorting through papers belonging to my Grandmother Inman (Adelia Viola Clay Inman--1869-1951), I stumbled across an old land deed. The contents of this deed follow: "The United States of America, To all to whom these presents shall come, greeting: Whereas, FREDERICK M. BALDWIN of Lasalle County, Illinois, has deposited in the GENERAL LAND OFFICE of the UNITED STATES, a Certificate of the Register of the Land Office at Decorah, whereby it appears that FULL PAYMENT has been made by the said FREDERICK M. BALDWING according to the provisions of the Act of Congress of the 24th of April 1820, entitled "An act making further provision for the sale of the public lands," for the West Hlaf of the NorthEast quarter of Section nineteen, in Township ninety four, North of Range seventeen ----in the District of Lands formerly subject to sale at Decorah, now Osage, Iowa, containing 80 acres....." The deed is signed by Thomas J. Albright on behalf of President James Buchanan and is dated the 15th of January 1858. I asked my father about the identity of this Frederick M. Baldwin. He told me that he was some sort of cousin of his father, Loren Waiste Inman (1870-1942). Well, I have never figured out the exact connection. I still have the deed. It is framed on the wall of my office (a dark spot where it is kept out of the light). Several years ago I tried to find out some information on this Frederick M. Baldwin at the Denver Public Library. I checked out the History of LaSalle County, Illinois and learned that he was originally from Connecticut. It is funny that you would ask this question because I was about to launch into a big investigation of this Baldwin ancestry. Frederick M. Baldwin may have been the forerunner of the Inman expedition into Iowa. Barbara Dr. Barbara Inman Beall, Ph.D, BIBeall@email.msn.com, BBeall43@yahoo.com Lancaster-Wormiston Press P.O.
