In TN legend has it that the Inman's came from England as colonists. There were three brothers named Shadrach, Meeshac and Abendego. Apparently Meshac was killed by an indian upon arrival in the US. They say that Abendego's family set it roots in GA, and Shadarach's set it roots in Virginia Territory, now TN. I cannot find evidence to substantiate the story, but it is documented that Shadarach Inman was killed by an Indian's Tomahawk while on an expedition. He possibly expllored with Daniel Boone. A TN newspaper created for the bicentennial of TN said that the tomahawk is still passed down in the Inman family. I have not seen it, however.
