    3. Hi, Valerie. I think I have some good information for you. This is from information researched and provided by John Raymond Inman for my friend, Betty Jo Long. She and my husband are both descendants of Rufus Inman of Maine and I believe you are also. Rufus Inman was indeed born in Rhode Island and is a descendant of Edward Inman who was in Rhode Island by 1640. Rufus Inman and Joseph Inman seemed to travel back and forth from Rhode Island to Maine frequently. Rufus Inman of Maine served in the Revolutionary War and then married Mehitable (Arnold or Shippen). Their children were: Deborah, Rufus Jr (my husband's ancestor); twins Morey and Sarah (Sally); Arnold; Thankful; Stephen, Betsy, James, Aaron, Samuel, and Nathan. By 1819, Rufus had lost his first wife, moved to Ohio, and married second, Elizabeth Clark Mayhew. She had six children, some of whom married Inman children. (Confused yet?) Now I quote John Raymond Inman's research: "At the age of nineteen, while still living in Corinth Maine, it is believed Arnold Inman married Hanna Leasure. They had one daughter, Eliza, born in 1813. Eliza later would marry Jacob McCullock, August 13, 1837. Arnold and Permelia (Mayhew) were married May 3, 1819 in Jefferson County Ohio." It seems apparent that Hanna Leasure did not live long and Arnold remarried. Jefferson Co OH is where Rufus Inman first settled in Ohio; then later most of the family moved to Washington County and that is where Rufus Inman Sr and Elizabeth Clark Mayhew Inman are buried. I have lots more information, most provided to me by Betty Jo Long, and would be happy to share it with you. I realize that the birthdate of this Elizabeth is earlier that you thought, but I have found that birthdates are often off in census records for many reasons. Let me know if you'd like more information about some of these "northern" Inmans. Eileen Matzek Davis Valerie F. McClung wrote: > > ISO any info re: my gggrandmother - Elizabeth Inman.
