Well, after turning the library upside down, I made some discoveries that I think are enlightening. Abraham Inman, son of Edward Inman and Mary Malavery of Rhode Island, had two marriages. His second marriage was to Sarah Bartlett in 1736. They had a son named Abraham Inman, who in turn had a son named Ezekiel. But the important connection is through his first marriage to Mary Bartlett (Sarah's cousin). Mary was the daughter of Samuel Barlett and Mary Inman. Mary Inman was the daughter of John Inman and Mary Whitman (of Rhode Island). This John Inman was the son of the first Edward Inman of Rhode Island. Abraham Inman was born between 1709-1712, and Mary Bartlett was born ca. 1709. They were married about 1729 and in 1730, they had a son named Ezekiel. Their other sons may have been Hezekiah and Lazarus. These 3 brothers disappear from Rhode Island records. However, it appears that by his second wife, Sarah, Abraham also had a son named Joseph, who later appears on the records of Frederick Co. MD. I don't think this theory is too far afield. Abraham Inman, son of Abraham and his second wife Sarah, also had a son named Henry Inman, who also turns up on Frederick Co. records and who later relocated to Beaver Co. PA. This Henry Inman married Esther Powers 30 Sept 1767 in Westmoreland Co., PA. I also found a record for a Henry Inman in Boston MA in the 1620s. This Henry may well have been one of Edward (b. 1620)'s uncles. If this theory is accurate, then it certainly explains the names "Abraham", "Samuel", "John", "Henry", "Ezekiel", and some of the others. Another connection concerns these families religious affiliation: Baptist. Barbara Dr. Barbara Inman Beall, Ph.D, BIBeall@email.msn.com, BBeall43@yahoo.com Lancaster-Wormiston Press P.O. I knew I would find this article sometime. "Obituarties of Washington County, Ar. Volume One 1841-1892 Compiled by Barbara P. Easley (Heritage Books). INMAN, Mary - This item is headed "The First Grave in Prairie Grove". In the summer of 1830 Mrs. Mary Inman, a cultured lady from Tennessee, traveling through this country with her brother, tarried a few days with acquaintances in this neighborhood, journeyed to Cane Hill, where she sickened and died. On her death bed she requested to be carried back to the prairie and buried amongst the flowers. The neighbors had met here to raise a house for school and church purposes. They saw horsemen approaching across the prairie, they supposed them hunters, a nearer approach revealed the spade and pick. Some one dead, who could it be? Death was a stranger in this land then. The facts understood, the Rev. Andrew Buchanan, who was proprietor of the premises, located the place for the grave, about 90 yerds northwest of the house being erected - is now in the southwest corner of the cemetery. During the afternoon the corpse, accompanied by a few friends arrived. Rev. Andrew Bucha! nan performed the religious rites. (Fayetteveille Democrat 1/29/85)
I've been receiving a number of requests for the address of the History Book Club. It is History Book Club 3839 W. Buckeye Rd Phoenix, AZ 85098-0022 You can find their enrollment form in many major magazines. However, if you are unable to find it, write this address and tell them you want to become a member. I'm sure that they will contact you. I got 3 great books for my initial enrollment: "The Great Dismal Swamp" book I mentioned in a previous message; "A General History of the Robberies & Murders of the Most Notorious Pirates" written by a mysterious Captain Charles Johnson in 1724--(I'm currently curious about the pirates in the Bahamas); and, "The Rise and Fall of the American Whig Party: Jacksonian Politics and the Onset of the Civil War" by Michael F. Is anyone familiar with the following LDS familysearch.org entry? Lazarus INMAN Sex: M Event(s): Christening: 6 Mar 1733 Coningsby, Lincoln, England Parents: Father: John INMAN Mother: - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This Lazarus is the age of the one who first appears in Augusta Co., VA records in 1760. Over the holidays, I made arrangements for a published historian of early, colonial Baltimore to look for any traces of Inmans in the area then, including the name of Robert Inman, his purported farm and so-called Inman's Run, a creek. I've asked several times over the years about further research into these items that a granddaughter of Ezekiel wrote about in Claiborne Co., TN. There are no libraries or primary sources available in Missouri to check further. Perhaps a local historian will have better luck. P.S. I think it likely Ezekiel died in East Tennessee where he was arraigned for squatting on Indian-owned land in Greene Co. TN courts with his youngest son, Lazarus, and John Maxwell c. 1791. We know Fanny Wakefield died in Blount Co. or thereabouts.
[Notice--I put question marks after the subject line] Time to upset everyone's lunch. I've been busy loading my mother's genealogical info into my genealogy computer program this week and stopped when I reached the 3-brother-Inman line: Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego. I am satisfied that Ezekiel Inman was their father. However, I have never been satisfied with Robert Inman as Ezekiel's father. I went to the Maryland Archives, where I could find no information on a Robert Inman there, and Virginia records have left me empty-handed as well. After reviewing a number of Inman websites and info on the Inman Compendium, I received the idea that other researchers aren't happy with that theory either. So I started digging and stumbled across an interesting item. Supposedly Ezekiel was born in Frederick Co., MD, although his birthplace is debated. He later went to Frederick County, VA. From there, he went to Burke Co., NC, where he died around 1793. He had two marriages. The first was to Henrietta Hardin, whom he married in Frederick Co., VA; his second wife was Fanny Wakefield. I ran across some information suggesting that Ezekiel's father was Abraham Inman, a son of Edward Inman of Rhode Island and Mary Malavery. All of Edward's children were by his first wife, Mary Malavery. They were (1) Michael, d. 1736; (2) Elisha, m. Abigail Darling; (3) Israel, m. Freelove Whipple; (4) ABRAHAM, a freeman of Gloucester in 1739; (5) Edward--from whom I descend on my father's side; (6) Elijah, whose family moved to Luzerne Co., PA. Four of his sons were killed in a massacre; (7) Susannah; (8) Priscilla; (9) Penelope; (10) Mary. [If this theory is valid, then Ezekiel would have been born in Gloucester.] Because Elijah's family moved to PA, the possibility exists that Abraham's family may also have moved there. From there, some of the members moved to Frederick County, MD. According to Brumbaugh's "Maryland Records, Colonial, Revolutionary, County & Church"--a Joshua Inman lived in Frederick Co. MD during Colonial times. Henry Inman, son of Abram Inman and his wife Nellie) was born in Frederick Sept. 25, 1758. He relocated to Beaver Co., PA. This Abram or Abraham is identified by the researcher I discovered as Ezekiel Inman's brother. I am really intrigued with this theory. What makes it so appealing is that when you line up the names of Edward Inman's children with the names of the children of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego--there is a great deal of similarity. What makes it also appealing is another discovery I recently made, or rather confirmed. Meshach Inman's wife was a German (hence, the Inman-German story coming from my mother's Spence line). Her family settled first in Lancaster, PA. From there, they relocated to Frederick Co., MD. And after that, they relocated to Rowan County, NC. They were Moravians. Edward Inman died in 1755. His will of May 28,1755 leaves "to my Son abraham Inman all my Rights and title to the farm where my Son abraham now Dwelleth to him & to ye male are of his Body Lawfully begotten & to ye male ares & their heirs and assigns for Ever." Abraham appears to have remained in Gloucester. Several of his sons, however, appear to have moved first to PA and next, to MD. I'm going to the Denver Public Library tomorrow and will see what else I can find. Barbara Dr. Barbara Inman Beall, Ph.D, BIBeall@email.msn.com, BBeall43@yahoo.com Lancaster-Wormiston Press P.O. Wow. I descend from the Bennetts in 3 different ways: Inman, Carpenter (on my father's side) and on my mother's side--Richard Bennett and Edward Bennett of VA. The Bennetts were a great merchant family in London, or so I've been reading. One of my big tasks this year is going to involve (hopefully) connecting these southern lines with the New England lines. I think that they were all cousins. I still think that Edward Inman was in Virginia before turning up in Rhode Island. My name is David Inman. My great grandfather was from Round Rock, TX. I am interested in the origins of Inmans from this area. Thanks.
I met my deadline. My father's Inman, Clay, Hoy, Waiste, Lee, Stillians, etc. etc. etc. Pedigree Charts are now officially loaded onto my "Twigs of Inman & Spence" website. I wanted to have them on there before the millenium rolled over, and I made it. You will find an index of surnames in the news area. The pedigree charts are in the file cabinet, and the documentation for each chart is in the description area on the cover page. I decided to put them in the file cabinet so that I can handle them better. Now that his line is finished, I will turn my attention to my mothers SPENCE, SPENCER, HOOD, KESSLER, WING, HOPPER, COFFMAN, etc. etc. lines. I need to enter her data into my program first, and then her pedigree charts will all be loaded onto the website. I probably won't start that effort until after the first of the year. Meanwhile, enjoy my father's charts! Barbara Dr. Barbara Inman Beall, Ph.D, BIBeall@email.msn.com, BBeall43@yahoo.com Lancaster-Wormiston Press P.O. I was just entering all of the inlaws and outlaws into my Family Tree Maker on my father's (RI Inman) line, and I stumbled across something interesting. This is from Amos Carpenter's "Rehobeth Carpenter" book: The family of John Carpenter. John was a son of William Carpenter and Priscilla Bennett. He was born Oct. 19, 1652. His wife was Rebecca Readaway (lst wife), and his second wife was a widow named Sarah Day, relict of Ralph Day of Dedham, MA. Child No. 7, John Carpenter, who was born in Woodstock, Windham CT abt 1698/1699. Wife: "probably" Ruth Innman, of Cranston, RI. Does anyone know the identity of this Ruth Inman? One of the Edward Inmans (wife Dorcas) (son of Edward Inman & Mary Malavery--son of Edward Inman and Elizabeth Bennett--son of Edward Inman of Rhode Island) had a daughter named Ruth--but this was much later than the Carpenter/Inman connection to which I am referring. That Ruth married Phillip Mowry, and they were living in Dudley in 1773. That Ruth is mentioned in the Will of Edward Inman 4th dated September 12, 1774 as Ruth the wife of Phillip Mowry. Greetings again from Temple, TX. It is beginning to feel like Christmas. The temperature has really dropped and the Indian summer is over. I just wanted to write and let you all know that I am going to be offline for several days. My computer has decided to lose a line port. Never had one do that before. It means I don't have a printer or a ZIP drive. Hence I am out of business since most of my files are on ZIP disks. If you have questions or data to submit, go ahead and send it. Just don't expect a reply till the first of the year. We will have a housefull for the holidays. The first time in 10 years that we have had Christmas in Temple. We truly will be blessed with their company. Mom, and I, wish all of you an equally joyous Holiday Season. Be happy and be careful on the roads. God bless you all. May all of you have a blessed holiday season and a prosperous New Year (and may the Y2K virus be nothing more than a piece of fuzz on a king-sized blanket!) Got my FamilyTree Maker to working again. I don't know what I did to make it say "out of memory"--but it is certainly not "out of memory" any more. As I result, I will be replacing the pedigree charts at my "Twigs" website with these (they look more appealing than my old PAF Dos junk). However, I am going to wait to do that now until after I get all my information entered in my FTM. I probably won't be online now too until after the first of January. From Dec. 28 until January 2, I will not be online at all (in case that creepy little bug decides to strike). Meanwhile, enjoy the season. Those of you who have been following my MyFamily.com website know that I have been posting my father, Gordon Loren Inman's, pedigree charts to that site. (I plan to do my mother's, Elva Gail Spence, later). My father's lines have been pretty much settled (thanks to the tireless efforts of my cousin, Charles Gordon Inman.) However, a couple of lines were still giving us problems: my Grandmother Inman's Stillians and Lee lines. I worked on these extensively about 8 years ago and then put them aside when I started focusing exclusively on the Spence and Spencer lines on my mother's side. Recently, I returned to the Stillians line--and did I ever make "one heck" of a discovery! I just finished posting a 10 part article to that website in the Family History section called "History's Lost & Found: What Happened to the Missing Charts". Ever since I started doing genealogy, I wanted to see how my mother and father were related. I just discovered how I am related to someone else. (I won't spoil the story by blurting it out). You WILL want to read that 10 part article. If you don't have access to my website and want it, let me know and I will put in a request.
