Spring cleaning has created a lot of dust. I am completely revamping the "Twigs of Inman & Spence' online journal at Rootsweb. The new version will be loaded on to the site (my goal) the week after next (spring break). Since I have a lot of space at that site, I have changed it so that older volumes will remain on the site until I start running out of room. Then I will pull the older volumes from the site and make them available via hard copy. I will let you know when the site is ready. Meanwhile, I have also revamped my homepage. Take a look at it at the url below and tell me what you think! Doris, I am just so happy right now, and it is all because of a message that you sent me about the Duncans. The line that you sent turned out not to be my direct line of Duncans, but they were related. Peter Duncan turned out to be the brother of the John Duncan from whom I descend. And the John Duncan from whom I descend came from Scotland to Pennsylvania. He was there for several years; then he wandered down to SC. He liked it so much that two or three years before the French & Indian War, he moved his family there. They settled in 96 District in what is today Laurens Co. In fact, John Duncan was the first settler there and from whom Duncans Creek got its name. He even founded the first church in the area--Duncan's Creek Presbyterian Church. (I found a wonderful link to that site on the USGenweb Laurens County Page. I found his daughter, Catherine (from whom I descend). He also had a son named David. Remember that land deed you mentioned some time back about John Spencer and David Duncan's land? Catherine's full name was Milly Catherine Duncan (they called her Katie or Kittie). She became the wife of John Spencer. Bingo. Not only that, but one of the David Duncans (there were several) married Hannah Inman, daughter of Thomas Inman, son of Elisha Inman. I tracked this line from SC to Indiana. Elisha Inman was connected with Ezekiel Inman, father of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (All of this came at a good time--I am currently writing Vol. 2 of "Twigs") Keep sending these neat little messages. You just never know where they lead. Barbara Dr. Barbara Inman Beall, Ph.D, BIBeall@email.msn.com, BBeall43@yahoo.com Lancaster-Wormiston Press P.O. Hello List, Does anyone have a Texas Inman who married Sarah Elizabeth Porter? I have no DOB or given name. Their children were born ca 1870-ca 1890 in Freestone Co, Rains Co, and Shelby Co, Texas. Any assistance would be appreciated! Regards, Wendy Kinkade kinkade1@earthlink.net
I'm going to jump in here because I found something interesting. I've been looking into Southern Inman connections with these Rhode Island Inmans. For those of you who just joined the list, I have a double-whammy of Inmans in my family. My father descended directly from the Rhode Island Inmans through a series of Edwards, Joseph, Daniel, Loren, Alonzo, and Loren Waiste Inman(my grandfather. My mother descends from Meshach Inman of the Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego Inmans. I've been talking with people about the Newberry SC Inmans lately; some people now think that the Newberry Inmans sprang from Edward Inman of Rhode Island and his wife Elizabeth Bennett. I have found the name "Rufus" among several southern Inman lines! Barbara --- Eileen Matzek Davis <nanapaco@swbell.net> wrote: > Hi, Valerie. > > I think I have some good information for you. ISO any info re: my gggrandmother - Elizabeth Inman. She married Jacob McCullock on 8/12/1837 in Washington County, Ohio. 1880 Washington County, Ohio census shows: McCollough, Jacob - age 56 Elizabeth - wife - age 55 Sylvester - son - age 19 Anthony - son - age 35 Susan - daughter in law - age 35 Both Sylvester and Anthony spelled their last names as McCullick. Anthony married Celestia J. Maple 3/31/1884, Sylvester married Mary Maple (sister/cousins?) on 12/3/1893. The 1880 census shows Elizabeth's parents as being born in Rhode Island. If Elizabeth was 55 in 1880, this places her birth as abt. 1825. Any connections?

Does anyone know anything about this individual. I have traced him as the possible father of the John and Dudley Inman I found in Greenville District, SC in 1756. The possibility exists that I connect with another Inman line--John and Dudley were in SC with William Spencer--and this William Spencer was the father of John Spencer of Greenville, SC, from whom I descend. Hi, Valerie. I think I have some good information for you. This is from information researched and provided by John Raymond Inman for my friend, Betty Jo Long. She and my husband are both descendants of Rufus Inman of Maine and I believe you are also. Rufus Inman was indeed born in Rhode Island and is a descendant of Edward Inman who was in Rhode Island by 1640. Rufus Inman and Joseph Inman seemed to travel back and forth from Rhode Island to Maine frequently. Rufus Inman of Maine served in the Revolutionary War and then married Mehitable (Arnold or Shippen). Their children were: Deborah, Rufus Jr (my husband's ancestor); twins Morey and Sarah (Sally); Arnold; Thankful; Stephen, Betsy, James, Aaron, Samuel, and Nathan. By 1819, Rufus had lost his first wife, moved to Ohio, and married second, Elizabeth Clark Mayhew. She had six children, some of whom married Inman children. (Confused yet?) Now I quote John Raymond Inman's research: "At the age of nineteen, while still living in Corinth Maine, it is believed Arnold Inman married Hanna Leasure. They had one daughter, Eliza, born in 1813. Eliza later would marry Jacob McCullock, August 13, 1837. Arnold and Permelia (Mayhew) were married May 3, 1819 in Jefferson County Ohio." It seems apparent that Hanna Leasure did not live long and Arnold remarried. Jefferson Co OH is where Rufus Inman first settled in Ohio; then later most of the family moved to Washington County and that is where Rufus Inman Sr and Elizabeth Clark Mayhew Inman are buried. I have lots more information, most provided to me by Betty Jo Long, and would be happy to share it with you. I realize that the birthdate of this Elizabeth is earlier that you thought, but I have found that birthdates are often off in census records for many reasons. Let me know if you'd like more information about some of these "northern" Inmans. Eileen Matzek Davis Valerie F. McClung wrote: > > ISO any info re: my gggrandmother - Elizabeth Inman. And am I ever happy that this happened. I stumbled across the proposed legislation while whacking the bushes for Spences, Spencers, Baileys, etc. the other day. One member of my local DAR chapter just recently got her birth certificates from Iowa and she said they gave her the third degree when she requested them: "Well, WHY do you want these???" etc. etc. Several years ago, I sent away for all birth records, death certificates, and marriages records that I knew were available in the State Bureau of Vital Statistics, and was so glad that I had done this when I stumbled across this legislation. I am glad the bill was defeated. Barbara Dr. Barbara Inman Beall, Ph.D, BIBeall@email.msn.com, BBeall43@yahoo.com Lancaster-Wormiston Press P.O.
