I've been busy in my flower beds the past two weeks (besides mourning the death of my computer mouse) and am planting what I call a "Family Garden." After digging up large spaces around my patio, I was suddenly confronted with the problem of what to plant. It didn't take long to decide. My Grandfather Spence raised peonie bushes. I remember seeing them when I was small and have a picture of me standing in front of them, holding a doll. One whole bed will house the Spence peonie bushes--so that will be called the Spence Garden. My Grandmother Inman's middle name sparked my next inclusion: Adelia Viola Clay Inman. I have violas in the front yard. They seem to be doing quite well. Also, I added a large number of rose bushes this year: that seems to be an Inman sort of thing. My Grandmother Spence (whose maiden name was Hopper) raised zineas and lilies of the valley. So I'm going to have a Hopper zinea bed. (I haven't decided what to do with the lilies of the valley, however--I've never had great success with those!) Anyway, to make a long story short, I'm digging for ancestral flowers and shrubs. If anyone has a favorite or knows of an ancestor who had a favorite, be sure to let me know. I have a lot of space to fill! I haven't been online these past two weeks because my poor little computer mouse expired. I suppose that expected too much of it (spending 10 hours a day sometimes on that addicting computer). I don't know whether this message made it to the list or not. In case it didn't, I'm pasting a copy of it below: Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 21:52:09 -0700 (PDT) From: Lnotdil@aol.com | Block address To: INMAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: {not a subscriber} Inman Research My great grandmother was Hannah Charlotte Parker. She was born January 5,1878, in Missouri. According to family history, her parents died when she was a small child; her father when she was about 2 and her mother when she was about 7. I found a listing for my Parkers on the 1880 Ripley County Missouri census, only problem is it only lists initials instead of first names. D. age 50, M.I. age 34, John age 18, L.A. age 8 and H. age 2. On the 1876 Ripley County Census, I learn that her parents were Daniel Parker and Isabella. Hannah has one sister named Lucinda A. who was born 6 years before, and that Daniel Parker has at least one son, John, from a former marriage. I have just recently gotten information from Hannah's death certificate. It lists her mother's name as Missouri Inman Parker. So now the belief is that the person I am looking for is Missouri Isabella Inman. According to the 1880 and the 1876 census, Missouri was born in 1846. I believe that Lucinda married a man named John H. Wilson in Ripley County Missouri in 1889. It is said that Hannah was raised by her sister and her brother-in-law. I know that prior to 1896 when Hannah married for the first time she had moved to Kansas. She married 4 times, had 5 children and in buried in Montgomery County Kansas. Can anyone help me give Hannah ancestors? Does anyone have information on Missouri Isabella Inman who was born in 1846? Thank you. Mom and I are scheduling our vacation for the third week of June. Again this year we plan to run a big circle from Dallas to Kansas City. The purpose is to visit as many cemeteries as possible between the two cities. I loaded a map on my Page 2, http://inman.surnameweb.org/index2.htm, which will give you the projected route. What I need is help in identifying the cemeteries in the towns I plan on visiting. The database doesn't always give me the name of the cemetery, just the town. If you have people in these towns and know the names of the cemetery, please let me know. Also, if you have family in these cemeteries, it would help if I had a list of names of people to be looking for while I am there. I will run a list from the database, but again I don't always know where people are buried. In many cases, the Inman name will not be the one I am looking for. It could be a female Inman and her descendants I am searching for so it is always easy to miss someone. I am asking for your help because stopping at city halls will not be possible. We will be travelling mostly on the weekends. Any time I can save by not looking for city hall, or a mortuary, or a sexton's office really speeds up the process. It will allow me to get to more sites. Last year we visited, mapped and photographed 12 sites in 4 days. I think with better organization, I can do more this year. Just because a site with your family is not listed doesn't mean we can't go to your site. If you can provide the details I could be persuaded to change plans if not too far off the line. In the end, I want to visit the sites where I can get the most amount of new data. So far, I have a request to go to Hydro, OK and Greenville, TX. Descendants of Willoughby Inman of KY are located there. I also want to go to Bowie, TX and Westville, OK where the ancestors of two of our newest lines are located. Any help you can give me will be appreicated. Thanks. JIM --- This email is going to Jim's email list and to the Rootsweb List which is why you might get two copies. I do have a birth certificate for my great grandfather John Inman from England, as well as his Alien registration card. He came to the USA about 1872 with his parents James & Margaret, but don't have the name of the vessel. I do not have the birth or death dates for my great great grandparents (James & Margaret), notes indicate they may have gone to New York first. I have been unsuccessful in finding much information about my family and hope to learn more by adding what info I have to this site. I do know that my grandfather Carroll, father James, uncle Carroll Jr, grew up in Pueblo, Colorado, and that my great grandparents John & Minnie died there, and are buried there. I am not sure what states my great great grandparents (James & Margaret) & great grandparents (John & Minnie) may have been in, but I have listed the possibilities I am aware of. I know for sure! they were in England, and Colorado. My grandfather (Carroll Sr) has a sister named Gladys Inman Loftin which I do know she was in Dallas Texas and Loftin is her married name, but haven't found any info on her. Carroll Sr. birth certificate indicates that his parents (John & Minnie) had one other child that died. I have been unable to locate much information on them as well. I have not done a web page yet for my family but am working on it, once its done and on the web I will let you know the link. My father recently passed away, since his death I have been trying to find out as much as I can about his family, he has one brother Carroll Inman Jr. He is alive and lives in California, however he has not been able to give me much information. This message is for anyone who is trying to get ahold of me. I will be offline for the next few days. My husband is in the hospital and was injured yesterday in a head-on collision. I think he is going to be released today--his heart was racing, so the paramedics hauled him off to the hospital where they kept him overnight. The car is totaled. My husband's neck is totaled. Between injured husband, totaled car, and research papers facing a deadline--I will not be doing any genealogy until some time next week. Meanwhile, keep talking. I am looking for further information on my gg-grandmother. Has anyone found an Inman daughter in their searching that fits the following description? I would be interested in following all leads as we have searched for birth records, census records, obituaries, etc. all to no avail. I have found the following information about her: -Born 4 May 1861 or 1864 in Ohio or Indiana (depending on which census you want to believe). -Married Park Werter Cowan in Wayne Co, Ohio on 1 Jan 1884 (listed on marriage certificate as Carrie A. Inman, no birthdate, birthplace, parents or further information listed). -She and Park divorced sometime around 1900 according to letters written by her son to his wife during WWI. -After her divorce, she lived in Ashland, Ohio. Park's family all lived there and she was very close with Park's sisters through all of her adult life. However, she traveled extensively from coast to coast on a regular basis visiting friends, her ex-husbands sisters and their children, as well as her own children and grandchildren. (I have several pictures of her with family members in various parts of the country from about 1900 to 1920.) -In the fall of 1920 she visited her younger son and daughter-in-law (my great-grandparents) and their new baby (my great aunt) in Arkansas where they were stationed with the Army. This is the last written documentation we have of her whereabouts. -We have a picture (judging by the ages of the children is circa 1930) that shows her with her granddaughters and one great-child. It appears this picture was taken on the porch of a home in Louisiana or Mississippi. Thought nothing more than first names are listed on the back. -My grandfather vaguely remembers hearing that his grandmother died right after he got married. He thinks it was about October of 1945. He is almost positive that she was living with one of her granddaughters (my grandfather's cousin) in New Orleans at the time. (I have searched death records and obituaries in New Orleans and the state of Louisiana to no avail.) -Carrie was a tall woman - at least 6 feet judging by the pictures we have. She was very thin and had thick, light brown hair that turned shock white in her old age. It is possible that she had adult on-set or gestational diabetes as my great-grandfather weighed over 12 pounds when he was born. I have been unable to find any references, allusions or otherwise to her origin. My great grandfathers letters and papers never mention grandparents on his mother's side. We have a few pictures of Carrie but all the people in the pictures are either children, grandchildren, her ex-husband's relatives or people identified as "friend.". I am wondering if anyone has a Carrie or Caroline Inman that they have come across that disappears in their records around 1884. Thanks in advance for any help you might offer!
