It's me again, this time from a different email address. I linked the "Twigs" rootsweb journal site to several rootsweb county resource pages today: Adair County, Iowa, Floyd County, Iowa, and Jasper County, Missouri. I will be linking it to other county pages as future articles are added. While I pulled the first two articles, I will be revising them (to make them shorter) and will be putting them back on the site. My goal is to add something new each week. However, the papers are lining up on the ridge from seven classes this week. I may have to grade the papers before I can add anything more. Barbara

I was going to abolish it and then had second thoughts. "Twigs of Inman & Spence" at Rootsweb will no longer continue as a journal. However, I have over 50 notebooks of information that I have collected over the last 10 years, so I may as well share some of my material. In place of the journal, Twigs of Inman & Spence at Rootsweb will continue as a collection of surname pages. The home page is up and running. I will add the pages as I have time. Does anyone have an Inman family in Clark County, Illinois? ~~Dixie
I thought this was worth forwarding to the group. Please give me some help on who John's parents, William and Elizabeth, might be. ========================================================================== To Whom It May Concern: I am actually a Mabe researcher. John Crockett Inman and Mary C. Mabe, daughter of John and Lucinda Gray Mabe, were listed in the Wythe County Vital Statistic microfilm (owned by LDS), as having married on December 29, 1858. I could never accept that John C. and Mary Mabe Inman were childless with John's first child from his second marriage seemingly being born before that marriage. Your website listed John W. L. Inman as being born on November 9, 1868 and the marriage occuring about 1870. With Mary's father being John and John's father being William, it was easy to assume that this first child could very well have been John William L. Inman, named after his grandfathers. However, in the Carroll County Vital Statistic Microfilm (LDS #0031087), the marriage date for John C. Inman, age 26, widowed and born in Wythe County to William and Elizabeth Inman married Eliza J. Robinson, age 19, born in Carroll County, daughter of John and Jane Robinson on February 22, 1866. I now have a parameter for Mary C. Mabe Inman and hopefully you have an exact date. Mary Kay Mabe

These lists have been extremely quiet lately. Let's start talking. Guess I'll get the ball rolling: 1. Has anyone seen the fellow on the golf tour (Joe Inman???) (at least I think his first name is Joe). Does anyone know which Inman line he descends from. 2. There is also a Spence on the golf tour. I think that he is from Australia. 3. I went to a mountain cemetery a couple of weeks ago above Conifer with several DAR friends. No one had ever catalogued the cemetery before, so we took it upon ourselves to do the job. Some of the surnames include Gray, Williams, Brooks, and other names that intermarried with the Spence line along the way. I think that some of these people came from Texas. I don't know the whole story about them as yet. 4. Clyde Hood told me that the Moss Springs Cemetery in Jasper County, MO now has a new fence and a paved road into the cemetery, making access much easier. The court battle over cemetery access must be over. This was good news; however, I may not be able to talk my husband into ever taking me there again. 5. My fall classes have started (all 7 of them). Don't be disheartened by the news. I plan to spend Tuesday and Thursday late mornings/early afternoons researching and writing. Hopefully, I can finish that "Twigs of Inman & Spence rootsweb article I've been working on. 6. One last thing. My day does not go well unless I watch the morning news while eating breakfast. I was watching the business news this morning and a stock analyst appeared on the screen by the name of Scot Kessler. I just sat there and blinked; I thought I was staring at a young version of my Grandfather Spence. Grandpa didn't look like the Spences at all; he looked like his mother's side of the family--only I didn't know whether she favored the Kesslers or the Wings. Well, this man's surname was Kessler, and he looked exactly like my grandfather when my grandfather was in his thirties. So the answer to that question is "Kessler". I suppose that this Scot Kessler is some distant cousin of mine. Relatives turn up in the strangest places. Greetings to all. I am writing to let you all know of some problems and changes going on at the web site. My host server is undergoing upgrades and you may notice a loss of speed during the process. As they move the files to a new server the transmissions will be noticeably slower. Searches right now are almost non-existant. I apologize for this but am assured that it will not last long. Recently Joe Smiddie, of the IN family, sent me copies of the 1880, 1900 and 1920 Soundex records for all Inmans in Indiana. There were well over 400 records. They are now included on the census pages. Links were made where possible and notations made in the database. This a great addition and are appreciated. Hopefully he will find a nearby library that has the 1910 records. Rosa Hightower is sending me copies of census graphics from one of her online memberships. These get worked in as they are received. If you have copies of census records that are not already included, please feel free to send me copies for inclusion. They really help. The 2000 SE Carolinas Inman Family Reunion is set for October 21 in Ash, Brunswick County, NC at the Community Center. The center will be open at 10:00am with lunch at 12:00am. Come early and meet one another or catch up with relatives you haven't seen since last years reunion. For details, call Earlene at 910-754-6629. Visit Jimmy Inman's web site for more details - http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/1871 I am still struggling to get on DSL. It has already been 4 months since I asked for the service. They now say it will be a minmum of another 30 days before they can correct their mistakes and switch me over. I hope none of you ever have this much trouble. In the last few days I have been notified that two of our cousins have been in ill health. Ruth Clark May, of the NE family, is recuperating from a heart attack and heart surgery. Loretta Inman, of the KY family, is recovering from a hernia operation. I hope you will keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Dear Jim Williams (Inman Compendium), Inman, Hopson, and Anderson Researchers; The following are email reports concerning the Newton County Texas Courthouse fire. This courthouse was a Texas Historic Landmark and archived many irreplaceable records for the family history researcher. It concerns me what may be necessay to restore or rebuild the courhouse along with the required scientific salvaging of any damaged records. There are many INMAN, HOPSON, and ANDERSON records contained in this couthouse and I considered it as one of the main record repositories for early 1800 settlements of East Texas, next to Sabine and Smith counties. I have no exact details as what was actually damaged or destroyed at this time, but it is certain, financing for any of these undertakings will require the help of many citizens. I urge anyone with a concern for this tragic loss to visit the Newton County Historical Society website and offer your support. They will be in file format and you will have to click on the actual file (.jpg) for still photo and (.mpg) for video. This is the address www.newton.txnetwork.com/fire As there are a LOT of photos, they will be uploading for the next thirty minutes, but as they are added, if you use refresh/reload you will get the new files as they get to the server. Fortenberry) To: TXNEWTON-L@rootsweb.com I have just returned home from the courthouse. Because I was with the judge, I got to go into the sheriff's office and the area between it and the courthouse. The fire marshals were there. Even though it is terrible, it is not as bad as it could be. It appears that the center section under the clock is what burned and it fell all the way through to the bottom. The too sides are not as badly damaged, mostly water. There are brick walls separating the main part to the sides. That probably saved most of what is left. Most of the records are safe. In fact the probation department had little damage. The old, old books of records seem to be OK. Some have water damage but someone in Austin is skilled to take care of the problem. District Clerk seems to have minor damage. In fact, authorities are going up and down the stairs on that side of the building. Betty Cobb, Treasurer, was pleased with the condition of her office. Insurance man was there along with the commissioners. They are going to try and save some of the structure. However, there are big cracks on the side of the building facing the gazebo. The building may have to come completely down. We do have insurance but not enough. The commissioners had just increased the coverage last budget year. Ron Lewis, state representative, said that he is already searching for funds to rebuild. We are probably going to lose some or parts of the trees. As I looked into the center, from the jail side, I could still active flames burning on the bottom of the floor. The fire department was there. I guess that just about covers all I know at this time. marye ==== TXNEWTON Mailing List ==== Newton County Historical Commission http://www.jas.net/~newton <<
