    3. Do you know the area of Missouri where this John Inman died? I find the Union County, SC reference interesting since a Shadrach Inman had a land deed there in the 1790s. [Someone posted it earlier on the list]. That Graham name is also intriguing. I descend from Samuel Inman, youngest son of Meshach. His wife was a Graham. Your Inmans and my Inmans/Spences seem to be crossing paths somewhere. 3. The name "Onstott" Cemetery caught my attention. I noticed the location is in Illinois. A family of Onstotts settled in Jasper County, MO about the same period of time that my Spences lived there. The name "Gabriel Onstott" rings a bell. I would have to review the old Jasper County History to find out their exact connections. 1. Re: Inman/Spence/Spencer and other matters
    2. Dr. Barbara Inman Beall
    3. Well, the next time I am in the Denver library, I will see what I can find on your Giles County Inmans. I would imagine that they descend from either Samuel Inman (from whom I descend) or his brother Lazarus Inman. They were the sons (the only sons) of Meshach Inman who was killed by Indians while on a hunting expedition in Tennessee ca. 1769. Legend claims that he and his two brothers, Shadrach and Abednego, were on a hunting expedition with Daniel Boone, although that legend is now contested (the Daniel Boone part of it, at any rate). I do think these Inmans knew the Boone family, however. While searching early census and tax records of Western NC (Burke County, specifically)--I found some of these Inmans surrounded by Boones--so perhaps the three brothers were on a hunting expedition with a Boone, Daniel or someone else. Another interesting thing I have discovered is that these western NC Inmans were also residing in the same neighborhood with my Spence, Spencer and Hood ancestors! This is my last week of school (YES!!!) and my last week of grading those research papers (YES!!!!). On Friday of next week, my husband and I plan to go to Iowa (where my mother lives). Then we will drop down to St. Louis for two days. And then, we are going to Jasper County, MO (where I am searching for my Spence/Spencer people). My third great grandmother was Elizabeth Inman. She married Samuel Spence in Tennessee in 1824. They lived in Perry County, but they took out their marriage license in Nashville in May 1824. The wedding no doubt took place in Perry County since there is no return on the license. They relocated to Jasper County MO by 1837/1838. A number of Inmans resided east of Jasper County--Texas County in the Houston area, etc. I think they were Elizabeth's cousins, but am uncertain of the exact connection. Most of these Inmans came from either Tennessee or Kentucky (and Lazarus Inman spent his final days in Kentucky! I believe that Samuel died in Tennessee and that he was dead by 1830. Lazarus lived to be almost 100 and died in 1865 in Barron (Sp) County, KY. Some of the Missouri Inmans married Dentons, and these same Dentons intermarried with my Spence line. So it just goes "round and round". I didn't know about any French Bealls. My husband's ancestry is Scottish. Perhaps your Bealls were Scottish mercenaries who settled in France!!! A lot of that happened during the reign of James I. He married where a courthouse burned, he mended all his fences. He avoided any man who came to take the U.S. Census. He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame. And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name. His parents came from Europe. They should be on some list Of passengers to the U.S.A, but somehow they got missed. And no one else in this world is searching for this man. So, I play geneasolitaire to find him if I can. I'm told he's buried in a plot, with tombstone he was blessed; but the weather took engraving, and some vandals took the rest. He died before the county clerks decided to keep records. 3. Greetings. I don't mean to write you all every week but I did want to keep everyone up to date on the changeover with the new server. By now you should all be reaching the new server and realizing the increased speed. It has been very evident on this end. A new gedcom was received this week and was added and uploaded tonight. It added 700 new names to the database. They are descendants of Ezekial Inman and are the line that settled in NC. You will find many new relatives that settled in Mount Airy, Surry, NC (Mayberry to you TV fanatics). I hope those of you researching that line will spend some time looking for connections. The donor is Jo Martin, and you will find her name in the Guest Book and on the VA researchers page. In the last month, Greg Inman of MI, has been sending in photos and histories of his line (NE). I have also added about 100 names from his line. Again, I encourage you to check the database often for updates. The database script is working now so the date of the update is on the opening page and accurate. There are still many of you out there that have not submitted any data to the database. We would all appreciate your contributions. We are getting close to making connections in several areas and could really use everyone's help. Speaking of contributions, I am please to say that 32 researchers have sent in donations to help support The Inman Compendium. I have listed their names on Page Two (index2.htm). Their help is appreciated and will help the site continue growing. No cutbacks are planned at this time. With this help, I have asked the server to set us up as a sub-domain of Surnameweb. Hopefully within a month, you will log onto the site with this URL: http://inman.surnameweb.org I will let you know when it happens. There will be an automatic switch over page, so you won't get lost in the shuffle. Any articles you have, and want to send in, will be welcomed. Keep looking And thanks for your help. -- Jim Williams --> Shortcuts to The Inman Compendium <-- Main page - http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/i/inman/index.htm Submit a Bio - http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/i/inman/guest/biopage.htm Database - http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/i/inman/database.htm Photo Album - http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/i/inman/contact.htm

    3. Alice, I think we have corresponded before. I am descended from Jonathan Inman of Orono, Maine. I have a record of a "Stuert" Inman born 10 Jan 1811 in Orono to Allen and Abigail (Page) Inman. The spelling is not the same, but the dates are close. Also, strangely this Stuert's mother's maiden name was Page. There seemed to be a lot of inter-marriages with the Pages in the Orono area. I think Page was one of the early settlers along with Joseph and Rufus Inman. Other children I have listed for Allen and Abigail are: Uriah b. Oct 1813 Nathanial b. Apr 1816 Willard b. Sep 1818 This may or may not be any connection. 3. And nowhere near Coggin. I think that Coggin is in the eastern part of the state. Kossuth County is interesting, however. I may have mentioned this before by my Grandmother Inman's grandfather (William Stillians--1826-1907) was a Methodist minister in Kossuth County before the turn of the century. I don't know how long he lived there, but he eventually moved to Adair, Iowa and he is buried in the Adair Cemetery with her family. I'm just wondering about possible Inman/Clay/Stillians connections in that area. 3. Thought I would read my e-mail while tons upon tons of research papers fall upon my desk. This is the day of retribution: turn them in, or else. (My bark is worse than my bite and my students know that--unfortunately). I'm trying to place Algona, Iowa. I grew up in Cedar Rapids; my father's family settled around Marble Rock in Floyd county. However, my Grandfather Inman was a Baptist preacher, and they moved around to a certain extent. It seems to me that they lived near Olwein (where my dad's brother, Lloyd, died in infancy). A Lee Inman family (relatives) also lived in that area. I can remember that they dropped in on us unexpectedly years ago. I know that I have been to Algona--but I've been away from the state for so long, I can't remember some of the locations. 3. Last year, before I had any idea how I was going to set up the Photo Album, someone sent me three pictures of their father. I put them aside for the time when there would be a photo album. Now I am ready to use them but cannot find the paper which gives me the name of the person. The three pictures are of her father as a boy, as a young man, and then middle aged with his dog. The file names are dad-dog, dad-kid, and daddy2. If you sent me these photos, would you please drop me a line with your Dad's name and data? Thanks. -- JIM --> Shortcuts to The Inman Compendium <-- Main page - http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/i/inman/index.htm Submit a Bio - http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/i/inman/guest/biopage.htm Database - http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/i/inman/database.htm Photo Album - http://www.surnameweb.org/centers/i/inman/contact.htm

    3. Thought I would throw out some things for discussion, etc. No. 1 While probing through the threaded archives lists a few moments ago, I discovered a surname list on Rootweb called INSPENCE-L. When I first saw it, I thought it was a combination of these two surnames: Inman and Spence. But the only message on the list appears to be the welcome message. Does anyone know anything about this surname? No. 2 Someone posted a message to the Inman list today concerning a land transaction involving Shadrach or Shedrach Inman in 1797 in Union County, SC. I have an idea this is the same Shadrach of the three brothers (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) and if so, this puts him very close to Greenville SC and at the same period of time when Elisha Spence and father-in-law John Spencer, were living there. (Ifound John Spencer and Shadrach's brother, Abednego, together on taxpayer/census lists in NC, and Samuel Inman (Meshach's son) and John Spencer on the same militia lists). Meshach was the Grandfather of Elizabeth Inman, wife of Samuel Spence and Samuel Spence was the son of Elisha Spence. If this is the same Shadrach Inman, then it is one more piece in the puzzle toward proving that all of these Inmans, Spences, and Spencers knew one another for a long, long time and continued moving west together. No. 3 The research papers have landed. I came up for air long enough to post my last message for a while. Hopefully these things will all be graded by mid-week. However, I anticipate a small number of procrastinators running after me on their knees, begging for more time. Don't stop posting because I am grading. I'll look forward to reading and responding once I finish the papers. No. 4 I'll close this posting with a true story--one bright lightfrom the events of last week. One of my current students is a Khurdish (sp?) refugee who is paralyzed from the waist down. He's probably in his early to mid-30s, and he travels about swiftly in a wheel chair. He turned in his research paper today and told me the story of his paralysis. Haydar was a news broadcaster in his own country. During the Gulf War, he learned that Hussein's forces were killing the Khurdish people further north. Announcing that he intended to cover the story, Haydar left his desk and headed toward the door. Just then, someone raised a rifle and shot him in his back, striking his spinal cord and paralyzing him from the waist down. He harbors no hatred for the person who did this to him and doesn't know the identity of the shooter. He hasn't seen his family in 5 years and said that he can never return home. ("Well, I could," he added, "but Hussein could not be in power!") And he has experienced the pain of recovery as well as the dreaded nightmares. "You know what I am going to do today?" he added, smiling. "I'm going to Craig Hospital where the Littleton student has been transferred, and I'm going to become his friend. I want him to know that the world hasn't ended. I want to encourage him all that I can." (He was referring to the student we saw escaping through the window so many times on news reports over the past week. This student is partially paralyzed.) Bravo for Haydar!!! He sets a beautiful example!
