Some on the list were discussing name changes. I run across an undated newspaper clipping about changing names. I think it probably dates early 1900's. "The names of two young women, both stenographers, were changed by order of Judge Robert F. Murray yesterday in Superior Court. Ella Margararet Jones, 19, employed as stenographer in the office of the superintendent of the Michigan state prison, was given the name of Collins, in compliance with her petition. She has been known by the latter name since childhood. Her parents were separated when she was an infant and later the mother married a man by the name of Collins. Only the mother appeared in court to present the petition of the daughter. Avis Jean Endsley had her name changed to Craig." I think the Margaret was married to a Stevenson/Stephenson? and died about 20 years ago when quite elderly and was buried in one of the Salem Township cemeteries in Delaware Co IN.
