Hello Joan, Have you requested his military &/or pension records from the National Archives yet? You might find some information in them. If not, at least they are interesting to read...the records I received on my relative gave a physical description of him (eye/hair color, height, weight), medical information, dates, etc. The address to write to is: National Archives and Records Administration General Reference Branch (NNRG-P) 7th and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, D.C. 20408 (202) 501-5170 They will send you a form to complete (as best as you can!). The information requested on the form is: Veteran's name Branch of servcie >>>>> Army State from which he served >>>>> Indiana War or dates served >>>>> Civil War For Civil War (Union or Confederate) >>>>> Union (right??) Unit in which he served >>>>> 34th Infantry Rank DOB Place of birth DOD Place of death Name of widow or other claimant Places veteran lived after service They do charge for the look up. I don't recall it being more than $25.00. Hope this helps! Good Luck!!
