Can anyone tell me if I will be able to obtain birth records for the year 1878 in Anderson, Madison County? I realize that Madison County records were destroyed by fire ca 1880. Are any of these records available through other State offices? Thanks.
Treehugger: At the Anderson Public Library we have 1 book that was compiled of early birth records from various sources. Anyone interested I will be willing to do a lookup. Email me at - pleedom@and.lib.in.us Phyllis
Zack Bennett, Maybe some of these names and marriage dates will help you. They were pulled from the Indiana Marriage Index 1845-1920 that is now available for a "free" search until Sept 21st on Ancestry.com. I only searched the CRAYCRAFT surname, but you can search for your JACKSON's on this database, too. Hope this helps you. Dear List Members: The Indiana Marriages from 1820-1850 maybe on Ancetry.com free untio today but you can access it free anytime through the Indiana State Library website. Unfortunately there are no marriage records for Madison County. Phyllis Leedom Anderson Public Library Indiana Room pleedom@and.lib.in.us
Hi Zack Unfortunately I don't have answers to your questions but do have a question on the Craycrafts in general. The question is did this Craycraft family come from OH and if so do you know what county? The reason for this question is it may help me locate the birth county in OH of my 2G G/D Asa Davis. He also lived in Madison Co IN from 1840 to 1864. About half that time in the Anderson Twp and the remainder in Van Buren Twp. My Asa's birth date is Feb 1818 and for over 3 years I have been trying to find his parents name and the birth county but with no success. One method to use when all normal methods fail in finding parents names is to look for unusual names living near the ancestor and see if those names can be found in the previous state of residency. Certainly Craycraft is not a common name and it was on my list to check out in the OH census of 1920-1840. Perhaps your em will help this process out. Look forward to your response. Eldon Davis

I want to locate the graves of Mary A (Patterson) Crossley and her husbands, (1) John C Wiseman and (2) Corydon Walker Crossley. it was Corydon's 3rd marriage. Corydon definitely died Madison Co.; I'm unsure about the others. Corydon's 2nd wife Mary A. Nomaid also is buried there. Is there a good source for cemetery listings in Madison Co.? Any ideas would be gratefully received! Dave McCutchan

This I found this AM going thru some digests. If you have or know this find for others I hope this is a vital tip for research. Beej in AZ Subject: Vital Records database searches From: FmlyTracer@aol.com For those folks who have been having problems searching vital records databases on GenWeb, you might be interested in reading this information. Sharon ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is for those of you who use the Vital Records database as a research tool or as a cemetery verification tool. Occasionally circumstances require using the first name and year date fields only. If the given name exceeds 7 letters...there is a problem. Truncation. EXAMPLE: Search first name Marshall, year 1970. The database will return no results. Search first name Marsh*, year 1970. The database will return 24 results with Marshall truncated as MARSHAL and MARSHLL. (plus the MARSHAs) EXAMPLE: Search first name Virginia, year 1966. The database will return no results. Search first name Virg*, year 1966. The database will return 75 results with Virginia truncated to VIRGNIA and VIRGINI. The problem is that this is limiting and you must be aware of it...if you search for Marshall Garrett in 1970, the computer will return no results...although a search for Garrett in 1970 will turn up Marshal Garrett. Likewise, searching for Virginia Thompson in 1966 will turn up no results...although a search for Thompson in 1966 will turn up Virgnia Thompson. Correction of the problem is long and hard and involves many names and much data. For the time being, knowing the truncation is out there, and knowing how to avoid it or work around it, will turn up some of those misses we've been having. Hi Tom, I see you have a Margaret LEE in there. I wondered if you have more info. on her ? I'd like to know if you have any info. on her being married before or after William ? I'm searching for a Margaret LEE how was married to a Henry CLARK but, this would have (possibly) been in OH. or IN., and they had 8 children. Is there someone, who can give me the address of the County Trustee, that has informations on cemeterys? Thank you, Karen Is there a map that has the twps well marked?
How in the world would I go about finding any kind of death record for someone (my gr-gr-gr-grandmother who died in January 1864? I know the county death records don't go back nearly that far. Also does anyone have transcripts of the Madison County cemeteries, who could look and see if she is there? Her name is Eliza (MANNING) SHAW. According to her husband, James C. SHAW's Civil War pension records, she died in January 1864 in Madison County. And she is not in the cemetery where he and his second wife are buried, in Russiaville, Howard County, Indiana. Thanks in advance for any information. Jan Rader Kent, Ohio

I know that 2 sets of my great-great-grandparents are buried in West Maplewood. Then it occurred to my mother that maybe one or more of their children's families is also buried there. Does anyone have access to a transcription of this cemetery? I am looking for the following: Clifford CHESNUT, 1877-1917 Margaret (EGGMAN) CHESNUT, 1882-1942 John S. CHESNUT, 1900-1978 Richard CHESNUT, 1902-1912 Edith Mary CHESNUT, 1905-1981 Arthur Robert EARP, unknown Mary Jane or Polly (HARRIS) EARP, died after 1921 Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Jan Rader Kent, OH
