Hi Floyd, I sent the email to the list primariIy for the possible connection of the Ward family and noted the Shinkle family mentioned came to Madison Co. I have no connection with any of the above familes with the exception of a Bonser/Apple marriage, and even then, I'm only connected with the Nathaniel Bonser whose daughter married Henry Apple. Nathaniel Bonser was a very much older step-brother to my gr grf. The reason I knew about the Shinkles was that I helped my daughter research this family in Madison Co for her FORMER boyfriend's parents. She also went to Clermont Co OH to do some research, and while there made a Zerox copy of the Shinkle family history. If you don't have a copy of this book, she might be interested in selling it. Lou in Indiana <GraveNews2>
Hi Lou, If Floyd is not interested in your daughter's research that she Xeroxed, then I certainly would! I am realated to the Shinkle and Bolander families. Thank you! Sarah Knecht Jones hawkmoon15@earthlink.net
Which Shinkle line are you connected to? The Shinkle line from Clermont County, OH is one of my lines. Would like to exchange information. Floyd Cooper Indianapolis
Colleen: I work in the Indiana Room, Anderson Public Library. If you would be so kind to scan that obit and send to me to my library address I'll put it in the Michaels family file. Phyllis Leedom pleedom@and.lib.in.us
Hi to the list. I recall some discussion on the list relating to the Ward family of Hancock/Madison/Grant Co IN. None of this may fit any of your families, but I thought I would forward it to the Madison Co list. On the Clermont Co OH listserve I found the following discussion and thought perhaps there might be some connection. It was about an Elijah Ward, but soon found it was not the one who came to Madison Co, but as I read further, I saw where a descendant, Michael Lindsay WARD b 1810 moved to Hancock Co IN when he purchased land there in 1835. The Bolander/Apple family mentioned are connected with the Shinkle family who were early settlers in Madison Co. This may be concidered by many list owners as off topic but it is a very important subject for many a researcher that find themselves in this situation. I have done many searchs and never had a site like this come up. You never know when something like this can be useful as we never know who is adopted and who is not till the research is in full swing. <A HREF="http://www.familyworkings.com/links/adoption.htm">Family Workings Adoption Page</A> http://www.familyworkings.com/links/adoption.htm On the Main Page the Bastard Nations link is very interesting and informative. I did a search on google for Vital Records and this was one of the hits and I have read where many are frustrated in this area of research. The top of the page is just full of help links. I hope this will be of help to many. Beej in AZ
Tom: Since the court house burned in 1880 the earliest wills begin 1879 (if I remember correctly) and there is an index in the Indiana Room, anderson Public Library. Other will records would be in the clerks office and you would have to go through them but the best way would be to hire a researcher to do your leg work. We have a list in the Indiana Room that I can send you. I don't do that kind of work any more just library research. Phyllis Leedom
I have my father's Anderson, IN, highschool yearbook of 1918 with the name of Catherine Daniels in the sophomore class and Nelle Daniels in the senior class. Dad was born in 1895 so Nelle probably was, too, andd Catherine in 1897. A brief note about Nelle in the yearbook that she had more dates in a shorter period of time than any other girl in class. Nice picture of her, too. Maybe sisters of Lula?? Philip Swinford PhilSford@AOL.com
Is there an index of Wills for Madison Co. or do you have to go through the courthouse to find if someone left a will.
I found Mrs. Creth Michaels Obit. in grtgrandmas things. She is the daughter of James and Lula Hiday Daniels. She was a native of Anderson, Indiana born May 2, 1891. I would be happy to extend a scanned copy if anyone needs it.
A mini ghost lengend from the book "Hoosier Folk Lengends" by Ronald L. Baker (p.59). Spelling is from the original. There was a house that stood for years between Middletown and Anderson, Indiana, that was hainted. And I know this to be the truth. No one could live in it because of all the noises that went on there. Always at midnight every night you could hear the spooks dragging chains across the floor. It was so loud that people used to come and sit in their cars outside and listen. Even long before that when people came in horses and buggies the horses would throw a fit when they drew near the house. There was some people who bought the property, but they refused to live in the old mansion. Instead they built a new house right next to the hainted house and used the hainted house for an old storage area. The reason they left the hainted house standing was that they were afraid if they tore it down the ghosts would come into their new house.
Thanks to Chris, Gilbert, Annette and others for helping to identify Cook's Park found in an old photo I have. Chris, the post card of the "Casino at Cooks Park" is the same buliding in my photo except that the lights are not apparent. I suppose what I thought was a lake was actually Pegion Creek. Now I need to indentify the young lady in the photo. Her name is written as Ethel Traylor and information on the back of the photo says she is 17 and it is dated as 1918. My family line of Traylors are from around Evansville and Indianapolis. No one in my family can identify who Ethel Traylor is or how she fits into our line. Some of my folks are in their 90s. I am sending this note to all the Indiana lists that I subscribe to in an attempt to find a connection. If you receive more then one copy of this communique please disregard all except one. Again, thanks to all those that have helped, Paul Traylor Milwaukee Wisconsin ptraylor@gateway.net

I just received the marriage application of Edgar Arnold and Clara Duncan who were married in Madison Co. IN on November 30, 1909. The marriage application provides some information on Edgar Arnold that I didn't have. His parents were George Arnold and Margaret Lockmiller. Edgar was born June 26, 1888 (although a different source says 1889). George was born in Indiana was a farmer and at the time of the marriage he was living in Mexico (!). They don't have a birplace for Margaret, but she was residing in Madison Co. IN at the time of the marriage.
