Feedback on Madison County web page. It is an excellent page. I appreciate that it loads quickly, unlike some of the other county web pages in other states. I noticed that you have what appears to be a future link to a township map for the county. This will be a valuable tool for searching records like census microfilms. Some township locations are obvious while others are not. Looking forward to someone completing that element. While on that subject, does anyone know of a reference source that has township locations inserted on a map of counties for particular states? I suspect that among his brothers were Elijah BROWN and William BROWN. For a time he owned the mill west of Anderson later known as Moss Island. He died about 1884 and is probably buried at the cemetery on Eighth Street in Edgewood. Known ch were Elias, Anderson, Obadiah, Elijah, Rebecca, Sarah, and Catherine BROWN. Hello, My name is Mike Pearson. One of my ancestors was Jesse Pearson aka James Pearson. He was one of the 29+ settlers listed in the "History of Madison and Hancock Counties". He resided in or near Ovid, Madison Co., Indiana. He was a Quaker and purchased his land in Madison Co. in 1829. His son, James Pearson, acquired his land and added more to it over his lifetime. At the time of his death, he own 800 acres of land most of being in Adams Township near the Madison and Henry County lines with one 100+ acre tract being over near Pendleton, Indiana. James' son, Jesse Pearson, was a Civil War veteran and served in the 19th and 20th Indiana Infantry and was wounded at the "Wilderness, Virginia". James Pearson alos had a son named Granville Pearson. Granville was also a Civil War soldier. He died at Nashville, Tenn., was originally buried in the National Cemetery there but was re-interred in the Kessling-Ellison Cemetery in Madison County. Other names I am interested in are: Birkinbine, Ellison, Personette, Elliott, and Farmer. Mike Pearson
Sandy - You might want to add this link http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ It is a record of first purchasers of land from the US Government. There are many Madison and surrounding county records and actual deeds can be seen. Barbara
Yes, as Ally said, intestate means dying without a will. However, if the descedant leaves money, property or other assets and especially if there are minor children, a record must be made to show how the assets are distributed. You can usually get these records wherever a particular county keeps wills. Valerie

I have 5 Sarah Jones in my line. None fit this discription. Sorry! Pat in CA
Thanks, Valerie, for your suggestion about the intestate records. Valerie wrote "I would like to see a section for people to put intestate records." There is an area provided for these records, and that is on the GenConnect Will Board, which may be found at: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/In/MadisonWill or which may also be reached by clicking on the WILLS Puzzle piece at the home page of the Web site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inmadiso/index.htm The Will Board is an excellent place to archive these types of records, and can be used to record estate administration documents, whether the deceased died with a will, or without a will. An example of a report which might be recorded on the will board in an intestate estate administration would be the one where the assets are finally settled. This document is referred to as "Final Distribution" Report or words to that effect. Not only do these documents often set out the basic information about the deceased, such as where and when the death occurred, but they also set forth the names, ages and addresses of the heirs at the time of the death and the amounts of properties they received. Another document which might be recorded would be one which determined heirship, i.e. where the Court has, upon a petition by an interested party, determines who the heir of the Deceased are. So, there are several types of estate administration documents which might be recorded on the Will Board, including those where the decedent died testate, i.e. with a will; and those where the decedent died intestate, i.e. without a will. ** For further information about the Boards at GenConnect, the "Pensions" Board may mislead many persons as to what to post on it. Actually, it is a good place for recording information about military pensions. Civil War Pensions, etc. could be recorded and related here. Keep in mind that queries are ALLOWED ONLY ON THE QUERY BOARD in the GenConnect Boards; the other Boards are provided for recording of information and queries are inappropriate on them, unless the query is directly in reply to a particular piece of information which has been previously posted. It appears to me that many people are confused about the GenConnect Boards which are not specifically the "QUERY" or message boards and hopefully, this information may help to start de-mystifying them. *** Also, Roy wrote: "In some County Sites I have visited in other States there are maps of the area or links to that State and Counties. A County map with the availability to zoom in and out is an asset when searching for exact locations." This would be a very desirable tool to have and we will be working on this for the future. *** Thanks to everyone who is participating in the various recent discussions. I appreciate hearing from all of you. Happy Hunting, Sandy Hennis, List Admin. INMADISO-admin@rootsweb.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I am searching the line of Sarah Jones who married John Pettigrew, son of George Washington Pettigrew and Mary Parsons. Sarah was born in April of 1834 in Green Township, Hamiliton County, In and died on April 14, 1903, in Madison County, Indiana. That is the only thing I have on the Jones. I haven't been able to find any parents for her. Is this part of your line or do you have anything on a Sarah Jones? Thanks for your help! Best Regards, Brandi

I am researching the Cromer, Mowrey/Mowery, Swanger families who came from PA & MD in the 1840's & 1850's to Ovid (New Columbus) area. Some later moved to Crossroads, Delaware Co, area. Would love to see early church records from Ovid Lutheran church posted. I haven't been able to reach anyone at the church. Sincerely, Marilyn Barber Danville, IN
What Jones line are you researching?
I am researching the surnames of Pettigrew, Jones, Ottinger, Winebrenner, and Longsworth. If anybody has any information on any of the surnames listed above will you please let me know. I would be very grateful in any help that can be given. The later Pettigrew's of Madison County were born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, and then later moved to Madison County, Indiana. Any help that may be given will be very appreciated. Thanks for your time! Best Regards, Brandi
