    3. Thanks everyone for your responses to my query. I am doing this for my friend in Maryland mainly. Phyllis-strangely enough, there is a Bell involved. Evidently Elijah Gardner had dau. b. 10 Feb. 1832, Anna Gardner who m. William Bell.. She p.b. In, m. 10 Feb. 1849 In. d. 19 Feb., 1908 probably in Iowa. William Bell b. 17 Sept.1829, p.b. In., d. 25 Nov. 1890 probably in Iowa. Another clue was there was a quitclaim Deed dated 1817 in Franklin Co. In which has Elijah, Archibald and Russell Gardner heirs of John Gardner, Dec. signing over the property to a Joseph Gardner. Does this connect with anyone? Joan [email protected]

    3. Hello list, I sent this to Lois earlier thinking that I was sending it to the list. If anybody has any information on this Cemetery I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Paul Rekow Hi Lois, Thanks for posting the address for the INPCRP website. I took a look just to check and see what it was like. I thought I will just check out the wall of shame to see if there were any cemeteries that contained my relatives on it. I was really hoping that I wouldn't find any, but unfortunately I found the Chapman/ Cottrell cemetery of Greene Township, Madison Co on the wall of shame. It was really sad to see the pictures of this cemetery and know that some of my relatives are buried there. The Lakin Chapman d. 1841 that was listed is my great-great-great-uncle. Until now I did not know where he was buried. I hope that I am able to do something to see that this cemetery is properly taken care of. In the article it only named a few people that are buried in this cemetery. If anyone knows the names others that are buried there please let me know. Thanks again, Paul Rekow

    2. Here is the 1860 GARDNER information. Note that there is a 2nd GARDNER (Archebald and Unes) who are old enough to be parents of Abram. Also, I found a bio of Abraham Cottrell in Pioneers of Madison and Hancock county, 1898 by Samuel Hardin. This bio says that he is the father of Mary A. who married Abram Gardner. Here is the relevant part of the bio. (interesting with regard to the recent conversations regarding the Chapman cemetery.) I hope that there is some new information here for you. Barbara "Was another grand old man (Abraham Cottrell) who found his way to the new county of Madison in the year 1823, and settled on both Fall and Lick Creek, near the junction, and opened and operated a farm up to his death, April 29, 1889. He was born in Virginia, June 11, 1803. Married to Susan Hilderbrand, October 12, 1823, in Union county, Ind. She was born in Virginia, June 29, 1803. .......Mrs. Cottrell died November 12, 1862, and is buried at the Chapman Cemetery, near the old home....The following are the names of his (Cottrell's children): Mary A. born May 14, 1824; married to Abram Gardner; he died March, 1894; buried at the Hiday cemetery. Elizabeth, born July 13, 1826; married to Jesse Pilkenton; he died in 1890 and is buried at the Fort cemetery. JOhn H., born October 10, 1829; resides near the county line, in Green township. He was first married to Jane Pettigrew. She died in 1880, and is buried in Beech Grove cemetery. He was the second time married to Margaret Anderson, September 19, 1880. She was born near Pendelton, July 17, 1837. ....Hester, born July 12, 1823, married first to John Gardner. He died in the army in 1861. She was again married to James Clark. William, born January 29, 1834; married to Margaret Williams. Both deceased and buried at the Chapman cemetery. Lydia, born May 11, 1836; married Carlos Savage; reside in Pendelton. Abram, born March 17, 1839; died in infancy, August 10, 1840. Samuel P. born November 24, 1840; died in the army, March 7, 1862 at Ft. Donelson. He was in the Eleventh Indiana Volunteers. Thomas J., born Septyember 22, 1843; married Marry Scott. He died June 15, 1883, and is buried at the Chapman cemetery. His wife died in Missouri. 3. Pat: Thanks for posting the message about the INPCRP (Indiana Pioneer Cemeteries Restoration Project). I am the State Coordinator for the group and invite anyone interested in protecting Indiana's vanishing pioneer cemeteries to participate by: (1) joining the INPCRP e-mail discussion group by sending a one-word e-mail message consisting of "SUBSCRIBE" to either [email protected] or [email protected] (the latter being the DIGEST version of the list); and (2) visiting the INPCRP website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~inpcrp On the website, you will find a collection of resources that may be useful to you in dealing with the problems we face as well as up-to-date information on House Bill 1522, which was passed into law last Spring, and pending House Bill 1184, now under consideration by the 2000 General Assembly. We don't have all the "answers" on the INPCRP, but we do have over 150 subscribers who are keenly interested in this problem. Also, expressing your opinions to our legislators is vitally important in bringing about some change in the way cemeteries are dealt with in this state. There are e-mail links on the 2000 Legislation page to make this easier. I particularly urge you to visit the "In the News" page on the INPCRP website. Thank you for caring. 3. Hi, Gardner hunters I have a Gardner that I have not yet began to research, but I have seen Gardners in Hancock Co., Franklin Co., and Hamilton Co.s of IN. I know my Gardner was from Franklin Co., about 1800-1830, then to Hamilton Co., to marry and then by 1850 into Hancock Co., and I'm sure into Madison Co., after that. 2. Good morning Barbara -- Thanks for the response and direction. I have already requested the NARA forms and am waiting on the mailman. The history of the 34th is great! One researcher said that because CARLISLE DERRY's name was listed under the Militia Enrollment for the 34th -- He might not have actually fought in all the battles -- but rather fought at the homefront -- will have to wait and see! Again, thank you! Joan Derry

    2. My gggrandfather was in the 34th Infantry. You should write to the National Archives and get his service file. Also, you should check for a widow's pension. You can go to http://www.nara.gov. to get the order form. I think it costs about $10 or $12 and it is really worth it.
