    2. Leigh E. Morris
    3. Elizabeth was the daughter of George and Mary (Polly) Harmon Ringer. George was born in about 1788 in Northampton County, PA and died 24 Sep 1829 in La Porte County, IN. He was the son of Michael Ringer, Jr., who was born about 1759 in Northampton Co, PA. His father was Michael Ringer, Sr., born about 1735 in Switzerland or Germany. None of my direct line appear to have settled in the Indianapolis area, but the earlier generations were rather prolific, so it is possible some of the siblings of George, Michael Jr. or Michael Sr could have migrated there. Most of Elizabeth's siblings stayed in the Jennings (Hayden) or Jackson Co, IN area. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 09, 2000 4:49 PM Subject: [INMADISO-L] RE: Elizabeth Ringer Morris > Was your Elizabeth Ringer Morris related to the Ringers from Maryland to > Indianapolis in the 1820's? > There are quite a few Ringers buried in a Lutheran cemetery near the > State Fairgrounds. > Marilyn Barber > Danville, IN

    3. The only problem with what you sent me is that the mother of Clarence Gustin (b. Nov. 1865) was not Julia Lydia "Fannie" Newport, but was Elisa Smith. Clarence was, to my knowledge, the last of the children. I have the carbon copy of a letter that my Grandfather, Merle Franklin Gustin, typed to Mrs. Elva R. Adams, Museum Director, Warren County Historical Society, Lebanon, Ohio, on June 16, 1972. In this letter he states of his grandfather, Benajah, "His childrens first names were William, Sally, Kate, Ben, by first wife, and Webster, Mahlor, Chalmer, Phil, Jenny, Ada, Louise, Edward, and Clarence (my Father). Off hand I canniot give you the names of the other two children at this time. In 1867 my Grandfather, his second wife, and nine children came to Indiana in a covered wagon, and stopped in Chesterfield for 6 months. All had been born in Ohio, except my Father who was born in Chesterfield. They came on to Anderson. My Grandfather operated a Blacksmith Shop and four of his sons became Blacksmiths. Originally three Gustin brothers came from the Isle of Jersey to Pittsburg, Pa., and built a raft and came down the Ohio river to Cincinnati, and separated there."

    3. Hi, the best way to handle tintypes is having a negative made of the Photo. That way you can have as many copies made as you want. Tintypes are a type of negative that is very reflective so they are not very good for scanning, you would be better off making a print and then scan the print. When you have this done you will see details you wouldn't believe. We did one for a friend of ours and the fathers eyes looked right though you. 3. Hi Phil, No Swinfords in the 1910 X-ray, but then there is not a list of underclasspersons....only the graduates. It is a very tiny yearbook. There are also no Wertz in it. In the History of Madison Co. book, so far I have found a David Werts and a William Wert who were both in the Civil War. Could either of these be your family? By the way, I was born and raised in Muncie, too! Graduated from Muncie Central H.S. in 1962. My Dad graduated from Central in 1929. 2. Sarah, my father, Basil Swinford, was probably a high school freshman in 1910 as he was pictured as a senior in 1914. In my X-ray the lower classes are just a list of names and nothing else unless they are on a ball team and have a picture. Still, if you like, I will xerox pages of the X-ray for you. I don't have a scanner to put it on e-mail so it must go snail-mail. I don't need the page with my father's name but would like to know if it is there. In the History of Madison Co. book I would like to know if there is a James Alber Swinford, my paternal grandfather, and Daniel Wertz, my maternal grandfather who came or his ancestors came there early, from Switzerland, I think. Let's keep in touch as long as we can help each other. Philip Swinford I was born in Muncie in Delaware Co. next to Madison Co.

    3. Phil, I really appreciate that you offered to do this. The only way I would ask you to copy any part of it is if I was sure that one of the people in it was a relative of mine. The only one I know of that is related to me is Ruth Sargent, and I would love to have a copy of that page. No hurry. Would there perhaps be any that I could look for in my 1910 X-Ray for you? Or might there be something I could look for in or copy from my "History of Madison Co., Indiana" book for you that I was fortunate enough to find in the used book shop at the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston in Dec. Just let me know.
