2. From: [email protected] I am developing a personal web site which is under lots of construction right now. It will have links to personal genealogy information. Will keep you posted. One last thing. There is a company that has developed a way of emailing money from one person to another. I read about it a few weeks ago in the Wall Street Journal and I have already bought and sold several items using it. It's called PayPal and has no fees for using it - like most stuff on the Internet, it's advertiser-paid and free for users. I recommend that you register either today or tomorrow because between now and Wednesday, new users get $10 free just for registering. If you click on this link PayPal Referral, I'll get $10 also. This is safe and for-real; I've even signed up my boss! Tom

1. Re: [INMADISO-L] STRANGERS IN THE BOX
2. Perhaps you'll like the story and admire the spunk of my brother-in-law. He took "those pictures in the bottom drawer of your father's family" with him on a cemetery hopping trip to Kentucky...and armed only with the gift of gab, visited people in the county where he grew up...and asked, "do you know who any of these people are?" He got a lot of pictures identified....but it's much easier to do it now. Nikki

1. [INMADISO-L] STRANGERS IN THE BOX
2. I am sending this to everyone on my mail list and hope that you get out your box of pictures and list who is on them. Also if your pics are in a plastic photo album with the sticky stuff in it that is acid bearing and will evenually ruin the photos either black and white or color. Photo stores have archival pages that are acid free and non damaging to photos. Thsy also have special pencils that will not damage the photo paper or picture. STRANGERS IN THE BOX (Author Unknown) Come, look with me inside this drawer, In this box I've often seen, At the pictures, black and white, Faces proud, still, and serene. I wish I knew the people, These strangers in the box, Their names and all their memories, Are lost among my socks. I wonder what their lives were like, How did they spend their days? What about their special times? I'll never know their ways. If only someone had taken time, To tell, who, what, where, and when, These faces of my heritage, Would come to life again. Could this become the fate, Of the pictures we take today? The faces and the memories, Someday to be passed away? Take time to save your stories, Seize the opportunity when it knocks, Or someday you and yours, Could be strangers in the box.

1. Re: [INMADISO-L] The Pioneer-Samuel Harden
2. In regards to Asa Davis, I have that name in my history file. But he is the son of Squire Davis who was born in 1826 in Wayne Co., IN and his wife Mary Haworth b.1834 in Winchester, In. Squire was the son of Samuel and Nancy Davis who moved to Randolph County, IN in 1831 (I don't know where from). Perhaps your Asa could be the brother of Squire. I do have other Davis families in my file, but they originate in England, through North Carolina, to Pennsylvania, to Virginia to Wayne County, Indiana. Eventually, they lived in the Darke Co., OH area.

1. Re: [INMADISO-L] The Pioneer-Samuel Harden
2. Hi Connie Would you please look to see if any info on an Asa DAVIS, my GG Granddad. Deed records indicated he purchased land near Anderson, Madison Co in 1842. Asa married Mary Jane Branson in Dec 1846 in Delaware Co. After the marriage, they lived in the Anderson area until 1858 when they moved to the Van Buren Twp of Madison Co living several miles north of Summitville. They lived there until 1864 when they moved to Champaign Co IL. So although I know a fair amount about Asa I do not know names of his parents which has been my quest for the past 3 years. If not a specific reference to Asa, perhaps there will be mention of some DAVIS family who moved into Madison Co from OHIO as this is where Asa was born in 1818 but county unknown. This OH Davis family could have come to Madison Co as early as 1838 as Asa purchased land in Delaware Co at that time. Thanks for your help. Eldon Davis

1. [INMADISO-L] Steele's from UK/PA/IN
2. Steve Veneskey
3. Hi, I'm going to find out if there is someone out there that is researching the Steele family that I am. My great grandfather was Robert Steele. He came from England and his father was Scottish, his mother English, they were coal miners. Robert's wife was from Wales and her name was Sarah Jane Carpenter, mostly she went by Jane. Jane's father was from Wales and her mother from England. They settled in PA and then moved on to Clay Co., IN. Their children were born in PA and IN. Robert was born about 1840-44, he arrived in the U.S. about May the 23rd 1876. We have William born on 3-28-1871 (PA), John born on 9-24-1872 (PA), Joseph born on 3-12-1874 (PA), Elizabeth born on 3-1875 (PA), James born on 2-21-1878(IN), Thomas born on 1-11-1880 (IN), George born on 11-15-1882 (IN), Sarah Martha born on 1-27-1884 (IN), Herman born on 4-25-1886(IN), Robert born on 2-24-1888 (IN), Frank and Archie born on 11-17-1892 (IN). An aunt was with them her name was Anna Steele born on 5-20-1869. A John Carpenter is listed with the Steele family as a neighbor in the 1900 census, he was also listed as a coal miner. John's parents were one from Wales and one from England. He was 23 in 1900 and born in PA. He could be a brother to Sarah Jane Carpenter Steele. I hope this may help someone and maybe myself. There are more, Stories, Karen Thank you for taking time to read this.
