While sitting In an armchair in his office over Coady's drug store, at 9:30 a.m. Monday, engaged in writing a prescription for a patient Dr. John M. Phipps received a fatal stroke of paralysis. He fell backward in the chair leaving the prescription half written and was unconscious and speechless until death, which occurred at 8 o'clock p.m. Funeral of Dr. Phipps the funeral of Dr. John M Phipps who died about 8 o'clock Monday night took place Wednesday, at 2:30 p.m. from the home of his mother, Mrs. Desty Phipps, on West 16th street. Services conducted by Rev. Chadwick and Eld. Franklin. Interment at Beech Grove Cemetery by Oddfellows and Red Men.
