DAILY TIMES MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA TUESDAY, JULY 20, 1948 DEATH CLAIMS GEORGE CATES George Richard Cates, 43 years old, died at 5:15 p.m. Monday at his home, 1328 F street. He had been in failing health for five years and his final illness was of only three days duration. The son of Cad and Carrie Canaway Cates, he was born in Elizabethtown, Ky., June 20, 1905. He married Daisy Raglan in Bloomington, who preceded him in death May 24, 1948. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Elizabethtown, Ky. Survivors are his mother and a step-father Mr. and Mrs. William Wintersmith, of Bedford; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Bonds, of Richmond, Calif.; two brothers, Harry Cates of Bedford and John Cates of Louisville, Ky.; a step-son Herbert George of Bedford; two half-sisters, Mrs. Frances Washington of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Nancy George of Bedford; two half-brothers Aneal Wintersmith of Chicago, Ill and James E. Wintersmith, of Lake Charles, La., and a number of uncles, aunts, and cousins. The body was prepared for burial at the Sherwood & Ferguson Chapel and will lie in state there. Funeral services will be held at the Sherwood & Ferguson Chapel at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Brother Porter, o Bloomington officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
