    3. BEDFORD MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, JANUARY 1, 1897 Asleep In Jesus Died at her home in Peerless, Ind., Lona, daughter of Phillip and Josia Goodman. Two years ago, while going to school, she contracted a cold which resulted in consumption. After lingering many months she gently passed away on Dec. 19th at 10 a.m. If she had lived until the 24th of December she would have been seventeen years old. Lona was a bright cheerful young lady. She possessed a pure and loving heart, which made her a favorite with allwho knew her. Her comanions will not soon forget that pleasant smile which lingered on her poor face during all her suffering. Whenever a friend spoke to her up to within a few minutes of her last breath, she would smile as if nothing disturbed her peace. At the age of fourteen she was converted to Christ, at Mt. Pleasant; and as long as her health permitted, filled her place at church. She will he greatly missed in the songs, the Sunday School and public worship. A few days before her death she told the writer that she had no fear of death; said she would soon be with the blessed Savior and exhorted her friends to meet her in heaven. I wonder if there are not many sorrowing hearts this beautiful Christmas; I wonder if there are not many redeemed spirits now entering into that many mansioned house. But we say to Mr. and Mrs. Goodman, we do sympathize with you in your great sorrow. Lona was good, gentle, patient and Christlike. Farewell, dearest one, you will not be forgotten. - The funeral service was held at the family residence at 11 a.m. to., Sunday and was largely attended. After which the remains ware taken to the Bailey cemetery and laid to rest. J. WILLIAMS. December 25, 1896.
