BEDFORD WEEKLY MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA JANUARY 25,1901 FAYETTEVILLE Several of the folks here attended the funeral of Uncle Peter Kern at Old Union Tuesday. ******** FRIDAY, FEB. 8, 1901 OBITUARY. Peter Kern died at his home near Coxton Jan. 21st, 1901. He was born Dec. 23rd, 1821, and was a member of the Christian church at Old White River Union. Interment at that place. He was married to Mary Jane Lackey July 25th, 1844. To this union were born four children, only one surviving him. His companion also died nearly 20 years ago. Mr. Kern was a good man and a respected citizen. Though dead he yet speaks of a life of hard work and devotion to what he believed to be right. He closed his eyes in the bright hope of an immortal life. The life he lived fitted him for a better one. He was not without his faults, none of us are but in his day he was a kind hospitable man.
