BEDFORD WEEKLY MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, APRIL 18, 1902 William Arnold, the man who was crushed between the sides of the Gainey warehouse and a box car at the 18th street of Monon Wednesday morning, died Thursday. Arnold was at work unloading stone for Robert Reed and while walking up the track a freight train engine pushed a car up behind him. He stepped to the side of the track and was caught between the ware-house and the car in a space of about six inches. The engineer saw a man fall out from between the cars and stopped the train. Arnold was taken to the home of William Strange and Doctor Freeland discovered three ribs broken on the left side. The fractures were almost over the heart and in a very dangerous position. His injuries were serious but hopes were held for his recovery. Yesterday he grew worse and died last night at 8:30 o'clock. The Gainey ware-house sets close to the Monon switch track and many people walk along side the shed every day. There are three or more switches there almost in a bunch and a person is always in doubt as to which track the train will take. Arnold was 47 years old. The body was taken to Bloomington on the accommodation Friday evening.
