BEDFORD WEEKLY MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, MAY 2, 1902 PROBABLY MURDER Walter B. Thompson, Of Salem, Killed At Mitchell Thursday Night. When a brakeman of a Monon freight train went out in the yards at Mitchell, about 2:30 Friday a. m., to turn a switch, he found a dead man lying near the target. The body was cold, and there was a good sized hole in the back of his head, and a large deep cut on the forehead. A club was lying near the corpse. Investigation revealed the fact that the corpse was that of Walter B. Thompson, an old soldier who had been in Mitchell Thursday, drinking and showing a quantity of money. It is believed he was murdered and robbed, and laid near the railroad to avert suspicion.
